BEWARE: Now Operating Out of Tramway Diner! Not the Upscale Restaurant Shown in Photos
The photos on their Google listing are not representative of their current location! They are now operating out of Tramway Diner as a ghost kitchen, but are still using images and the address from their previous restaurant on 63rd. There’s no clear notice of this change on Google or their website, which feels deceptive, especially for takeout customers who might not realize they’re ordering from a diner kitchen.
My partner and I used to go to the old location since we lived next door, but even then only occasionally because the prices were so high. Since the switch, the food quality has noticeably declined (more in line with basic diner fare) yet it’s wild those same prices remain, even though they are no longer offering the more upscale dining experience. It’s also worth noting that their heavy push for takeout began around the same time they moved, but before they updated their address publicly.
Disappointed, and I hope they become more transparent with customers moving forward.
From start to finish, George’s Southern Greek exceeded all expectations. Warm, attentive service paired with an inviting atmosphere right on 1st Avenue & 63rd makes this place a gem.
The beef shish kebab was a standout: lightly marinated cubes char-grilled to perfection and served over a fluffy rice pilaf… juicy inside, beautifully seared outside.
Every dish we tried tasted fresh and authentic, from the classic Greek dips to the crisp-tender vegetables, and the portion sizes were generous without compromising quality. If you’re in the mood for honest Greek cooking with personality and flavor, you won’t be disappointed here. I cannot wait to go back.

Four of us stopped by George the other night for dinner. We had been there a couple of times before but first time for our friends. We ordered to share all dishes.
We ordered jumbo shrimp, branzino, seared cod and a salad. Shrimp and cod were perfect. Salad was ok but rather small. Unfortunately the Branzino was too dried out, maybe overcooked.
We also had a glass Greek red blended wine and it was quite good.
At the beginning, the noise level was low as many tables were still empty. Later on, all tables filled up and the noise level made it very hard to carry a conversation over the table.
My wife and I went back again the other day for our date night. Made a reservation and got a good table. This time we ordered fresh wild salmon (with spinach) and Souvlaki Platter with lamb. Both dishes were cooked properly and delicious. Add a glass of Greek red wine and all is good.
ALERT
Looks like this location has suddenly closed. See sign on door I photographed today Sept 9.

Absolutely one of my favorite places in the area - food, service, and environment are always perfect. Their menu has many options (I would highly recommend the dips and spreads to start, they are fantastic). Definitely a gem!

Absolutely wonderful Greek cooking, fresh and delicious. And the service is attentive and kind.
We had such a wonderful experience here! Our server, Ivy, was absolutely amazing—friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The food was delicious and authentically Greek, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. My family and I had a great time and we’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend!

I’d been craving Greek food and was searching for an authentic Greek restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere to have dinner with a good girlfriend of mine- landed on the PERFECT place!
The food was FULL of flavor and the ingredients were incredibly fresh. For appetizers we had tzatziki with pita and spanakopita. For our entrees I ordered the chicken with lemon potatoes, incredibly generous portions, and my friend ordered the steak with rice, which she loved. We had baklava with berries for dessert and drinks as well, both yummy. Overall we spent 2.5 hours dining there and catching up on a Thursday evening, couldn’t have picked a better restaurant.
The service, specifically of Daphney our waiter, was amazing! Daphney had a good sense of humor, was upbeat and also did not rush us (which matters a lot to me!). It was giving Greek Aunty vibes and made the experience feel surprisingly cozy, which we really enjoyed.
I know some other reviews mentioned issues with the music being loud, but that that wasn’t our experience at all. We truly had an amazing evening at George’s and I can’t wait to come back with other friends and family!

The music, unfortunately, was too loud - it was difficult to talk at the table. The food was ok, but nothing special. Friendly staff.

Avoid at all costs.
A simple order of salad with shrimp and chicken kebab took 45 minutes. After inquiring with the server, he responded rudely as if I was out of line.
The $30 salad looked as if a bag of dole lettuce was dumped in a bowl with a handful of Sargento cheese and two old, mealy prawns that were not cooked.

I was quite disappointed with the recent take out order where items were missing:Moussaka Platter per your Menu
Hearty slice of moussaka, served with pita, tzatziki, and Greek salad.
Missing: tzatziki, pita
Swordfish Kebab Platter per your Menu
Swordfish grilled on a jumbo skewer with vegetables, served with rice pilaf and Greek salad.
Missing: Greek salad
Lamb Kebab Platter
Lamb grilled on jumbo skewer with vegetables, served with rice pilaf and Greek salad.
Missing: Greek salad, fries instead of rice pilaf
Haloumi Pita Sandwich
Grilled haloumi, served in a pita with tomato, cucumbers, olive oil & balsamic vinegar.
Probably missing the dressing
This is a substantial difference. Especially on an order at about $100
I reached out, never hear back. I am an adamant supporter of great quality food, which George definitely delivers, but accuracy and service also play a big role. And unfortunately it has not been the first time items were skipped, or something else was up.

Very authentic and great service. The food was straight off the grill, and served piping hot. The best Greek restaurant in the area for sure.

I got a delivery from this place for the first time ..I order the baked chicken with lemon potatoes. It’s totally tasteless especially the chicken which has no taste at all. The potatoes are ok.
I also ordered gigantes which are terribly done, very salty no
Parsley or dill.
I’m Greek and I know how the food should taste, I don’t recommend this place as their food is made without love .

I had very modest expectations for this first time walk in visit. I was very very impressed by the quality of the food and the warmth of the welcome by the native Greek servers. Wonderful char grilled meats on the gyro were a real treat. I will be back and highly recommend. These guys deserve to do well.
