Most lovely owner and food. One of my favorite places to go with friends (especially during the lunch special!)

Not sure what happened to this place. I noticed they renovated the inside when I picked up my food but the Tandoori chicken has gone straight to hell. Its basically rotisserie chicken covered it in a disgusting katsup like sauce now. It was so gross. The saffron rice was also bad.

The go-to spot for Indian food. Some of the best items are the Samosa Chaat, the lamb specials, and the garlic naan (if you love Garlic!). The appetizer + dessert that come with the set meals can not be beat in NYC. It is hard to find a place in NYC that offers this at a reasonable cost; Gandhi Cafe threads that needle well.
Service is kind and attentive. The music playing in the background is lovely.

We had the lunch specials (dhansak and saag paneer) which came with a pakora + soup app, rice, one naan, and a small mango rice pudding dessert. Service was excellent and it looks like a sweet family-run type restaurant. Def worth a visit!

Gandhi Cafe is exactly what I love in a New York Indian restaurant. It’s run by a wonderful, warm family, the food is delicious and expertly cooked at a perfect price point. It’s a real neighborhood treasure.

In my third decade now of patronizing this West Village—nay—NATIONAL treasure of an eatery. 21 years after I first popped in for the $8 three course lunch special, the food is still delicious and nuanced, the service incredibly loving, the ambiance honey—and the lunch special is still under $10. I can't make it make sense against inflation, but I'm not complaining.

Might write a poem about this place.
