Gandhi Cafe is exactly what I love in a New York Indian restaurant. It’s run by a wonderful, warm family, the food is delicious and expertly cooked at a perfect price point. It’s a real neighborhood treasure.

In my third decade now of patronizing this West Village—nay—NATIONAL treasure of an eatery. 21 years after I first popped in for the $8 three course lunch special, the food is still delicious and nuanced, the service incredibly loving, the ambiance honey—and the lunch special is still under $10. I can't make it make sense against inflation, but I'm not complaining.
Might write a poem about this place.

Blink and you’ll miss it! It’s a small store front but it’s packed with flavor. Stopped in for an early lunch and I enjoyed every bite!

What a gem! One of the best lunches we've had in Manhattan and by far the least expensive. My one criticism is that from the outside the cafe looks a bit rough and unappealing. Once inside though it's much nicer and the service could not have been better.

Gandi cafe has been my gf favorite Indian restaurant. She would be always dying to have the butter chicken there and the papadam with the chutneys. I seen her devore the whole plate 😂 but its really good overall the mango lassi too omg so rich and smooth! The prices too are very reasonable which is amazing! At the end the staff will give u a plate of payesh (rice pudding) and a mix of sweet and cumin to help digestion after your meal along side toothpicks to really get in there lol 😂. The owner was super friendly always says thank you and remembers you everytime u came! He added whipped cream to our mango lassi because last time I asked if there was any whipped cream he could add and he somehow remember from our last encounter 🥹! Overall the vibes, the food, the retro cart style is all amazing and great! Can't wait to be back again and try new items!

The perfect place for some comfort Indian food! The service is great and the restaurant owner is the sweetest man. He makes sure everyone is taken care of and goes out of his way to ensure guests are enjoying the food. The food is amazing too! Presentation is great. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Delicious food and great prices! A rarity these days in NYC.
I love this place!!! Adorable decor, the sweetest waiter who totally understood about what’s vegan, and the vegan tali was soooo delicious and they made it nice and spicy for me. And such reasonable prices!
