Very solid, extra cheesy, bagel sandwiches, I recommend adding hot honey, which you can do for free.

As H&H is not the fastest place, even with the absence of a large line, a better option is often ordering ahead on their website/app.

H&H bagels opened in St. John’s Florida this week! It’s wonderful to have a authentic New York City bagels in the community. They are so much better than what you buy at the grocery store. Love the sandwiches for breakfast or lunch or buy them for a picnic, road trip, take to the beach, or pick them up early in the morning and surprise the family with fresh bagels for breakfast!

Heading to the Museum of Natural History today, and I wanted to maximize my UWS time. H&H is one of my favorite bagels, but not sure I ever came to the actual location. Super happy I did. Bright and well-lit, this place was basically dead at 8am on a rainy Sunday morning. It started getting busier as I sat and noshed on my delicious Lox, cream cheese, capers, and tomato on a toasted Everything bagel. The ‘Nova Salmon with no onion.’ The staff was friendly, and the guy who made my sandwich joked that it had extra onion which I met with a frown and then a smile when I realized he was yanking my chain. I will mention I don’t remember paying this much for a Lox bagel and cream cheese before, but everything on this trip to NYC has been more expensive from $5 pizza for a single topping to a $16 (Corner) Bistro burger. So I figure it’s par for the course. Stop by and enjoy this delicious spot. And then walk to Central Park or stop by a Museum. Or just live your amazing life on the UWS.

DO NOT eat anything prepared here. While waiting in line, I witnessed some truly shocking violations of basic food safety:

-One of the food preparers accidentally knocked a can of cooking spray into the trash. After staring at it for a moment, he picked it back up and placed it on the counter. That can is now contaminated — and anyone who touches it, then touches food, is spreading bacteria.

-Moments later, I witnessed another employee crack an egg into a bowl while wearing gloves. He fished out a piece of eggshell with his fingers, then went right back to preparing food — touching cooked bacon, bagels, sandwich wrappers, and more — all with the same gloves. That means raw egg bacteria was transferred to everything he handled afterward. I genuinely feel awful for anyone whose order was being prepared at that moment.

I flagged all of this to the manager, who barely seemed to grasp the issue. A competent manager would’ve halted all food prep, tossed anything in progress, instructed everyone to change gloves, and sanitized the area immediately. None of that happened.

Speaking of gloves: this place desperately needs a crash course in hygiene. Gloves are not magic barriers — if you wear the same pair through multiple tasks, you’re just spreading germs around with false confidence. I’d honestly prefer bare hands that are frequently washed.

I’m stunned that a well-known business like H&H would operate with such low standards. This isn’t just gross — it’s dangerous. I won’t be coming back, and I strongly recommend you don’t eat here either.

Long time customer at H&H bagel, been coming here for years! The bagels are fresh, breakfast sandwiches with egg white are quite delicious. There are a lot of bagel places in this neighborhood, but Thomas's kind and positive demeanor has made us feel a human connection to this place, and we keep coming back! It's one of the rare places in New York where authenticity and good food comes together, a real local experience. Highly recommend👍

For those who live on the Upper West Side, the outstanding customer service makes this H&H location a hidden gem. Get to know the friendly staff while you enjoy your favorite bagel (toasted or not!) with generous portions of bacon, egg, and cheese or however you like it. And there’s plenty of seating and a warm atmosphere to enjoy your meal without having to rush! Enjoy a true New York City experience while supporting a local business!

But they never have garlic bagels, even when you're there really early.

I’ve been thinking if I should post this since I’m never coming back, but I just couldn’t let it slide, I went there a couple of days ago and I was disgusted by how some people work there, there was this senior worker there who was handling the food with no gloves, completely disgusting, besides that he wasn't covering his hair with a hairnet which its so unsanitary, and to finish to ruin my experience the heat there was so overwhelming.

I came in for a toasted bagel with cream cheese. I saw the guy not toast it and I asked him to please toast it. He argued with me that it was fresh, so didn’t need to be toasted. I asked him to please re do and raised his voice and said “well, now you have to wait!” I waited and saw his colleague, while wresting gloves, pull up his pants and handle food.
