I’m from Baltimore City, I was staying in Queens. I came to Harlem with my sons to get breakfast. The guy at the register who was running things was very cool, joking with my sons. It was a very family friendly environment and the food was ????.
The chopped cheese. It’s not a sandwich—it’s an argument wrapped in a roll. Everyone’s got an opinion on where it came from, but who really cares? Walk into Hajji’s, or whatever they’re calling it now, and they’ll slap together something that speaks for itself. Ground beef sizzling with onions, cheese melting into every crevice, lettuce and tomato tossed in like an afterthought. The whole mess gets piled into a roll that barely holds it together. It’s not fancy....
I’ve had a bunch of chop cheeses from different bodegas on various visits to the city, this one is the first one I ever had and by far the best without a doubt! I take mine with onions, lite ketchup and mayo on a hero perfectly melted perfectly toasted. Quick in and out and only $8.00! Stick with the original and you can’t go wrong, thanks Hajji!
