Food was so good. I highly suggest ordering a sushi or sashimi regular for the most affordable option. The service was a little too full, the staff are kind but too attentive. For example; they repeatedly tried to take dishes away that we weren’t done with, they kept wiping little insignificant spills on the table, they kept pouring sake into our cups and asking us if we want more. All little things that aren’t very important, but good service from a restaurant is knowing when to leave customers alone to enjoy their food. It also felt like they were over staffed, the restaurant is quite small and there are a lot of employees standing around. Anyways the food was really good and the interior of the restaurant is really nice. Definitely recommend trying it if you appreciate good sushi.

We have been going here for 30 years. The omakase is outstanding and a relative bargain. They have a garden too.

We visited this restaurant for dinner, spending $215 including tips. Our meal included sushi plates, Maki, miso soup, and a unique foamy soup. The staff impressed us with their exceptional manners and friendliness. A highlight was their high-tech toilet with various buttons – quite amusing. Additionally, we appreciated the inclusion of Grüner Veltliner on their wine list.

Nice traditional Japanese sushi/omakase place. Personnel is simply amazing: I went there for our anniversary, they offered us champagne and a dessert at the end of the dinner course. Excellent food quality and great atmosphere. Would go back there 100%

Phenomenal quality. Each omakase dish was incredibly creative and fulfilling. Each piece was distinct from the last - had us captivated by the very first dish. The price was extremely reasonable. The atmosphere was very thought out, down to the checkbooks.Definitely go for the omakasae option when ordering.

One of my top 3 sushi places in the city. Nothing fussy - just straightforward, impeccably prepared dishes. You will not find Americanized sushi here, and that is why I like it.

A nice traditional sushi restaurant, with lovely service and good food. I had the chirashi Omakase which had nice rice and a good selection of premium fish, although some of the pieces were a bit small. I also had the grilled yellow tail should that was well cooked, big and tasty. Overall, a nice place with good food. I’ll be back.

Yohan was our waiter the 2 times, hes great Such an amazing place with knowledgeable, attentive staff, they switch out the selection when certain stuff is in season..and import from Japan. Not a fan of the miso soup personally but the omakase can't be beat .. highly recommend !!

It breaks my heart to write this review. When I first discovered the magic of Japanese cuisine, I was in high school. Hasaki is a Japanese institution of the East Village, the last samurai standing after the sad recent downfall of beloved familiar homes like Yokocho, Panya and Sunrise. The menu was once vibrant--featuring two delicious versions of nabe. Seasonal specialties prepared in regional distinctions. The sushi was, of course, impeccable. The tempura was a delight. I always loved to order a plate of it as an appetizer, the quality was so perfect. But all that is gone. Ambience is central to enjoying good quality Japanese food. That is not to say that a jovial izakaya filled with cigarette smoke and outdated music isn't as close to perfection as it can get but for Hasaki-who prides itself on an authentic, high-quality-cuisine-that element is central. Stepping down into the subterranean space of Hasaki from the soiled, noisy, college-student chattered air of the Lower East aside, you enter a space of blissful tranquility. A calm, surgically clean, perfectly arranged dining area where one expects the food to arrive on your plate like the work of art it.The ambience is still there--a removal, a respite from the grunge of NYC streets. But the menu has been sadly pared down to its bare minimum. Gone is the tempura. Gone is the nabe. Gone is the teishoku twilight dinner for a reasonable price. Gone is the seasonal special. Just overpriced sushi remains. And while the quality is still high, I should not feel like my fish had been sliced straight out of the freezer. Ice cold fish atop loose, slippery, stained sushi rice is not worth the price tag. How am I meant to pick it up with my chopsticks if it keeps falling apart? And worse, a chef accidentally dropped an object from behind the sushi bar with a loud flatter, breaking the peaceful ambience which was the only good thing about Hasaki worth its price. No one even apologized.I hope this experience is just a reflection of a reduced summer menu and that their original vibrant and varied menu will return in the Fall. That would be worth the price tag. My memories of Hasaki are too fond to shake off. I have always bragged about Hasaki and taken newcomers to Japanese cuisine there to experience all the greatness of Japanese culture and food. I want to do so again but this last experience was very disappointing. Please reawaken, Hasaki.

This place is almost hidden as you walk past it but what a find! The menu comprises a range of Japanese classics but what stands out is the selection of Sushi and Sashimi which features some fish which are not easily found outside of Japan. John, the waiter, was very knowledgeable in recommending the menu. He suggested the Wild Salmon Sashimi selection, the Seared Barracuda, and the marinated whitebait amongst others. All outstanding, although my absolute favourite was the silver skinned fish Sashimi selection which included Kohada, Japanese Sardine and Mackerel. Hasaki has a nice, relaxed ambience with friendly staff and a great view of the Chefs displaying their skills at the Sushi counter. Definitely a place I’d go back to next time I’m in New York
