I've been coming here since 2021, but I feel like the service and quality of food has gone down considerably. My hayashi rice was too too sweet, and the batter for the karaage was different (and not in a good way). Our waiters were present, but not friendly the way they used to be. We were also rushed out of our seats after we paid the bill. Sadly, I do not think I'll be returning.

We enjoyed our dinner here: ordered the yakisoba, omurice, potato salad and cabbage. All very tasty and fresh.

Reservations a must. Small groups of 4 or less better. Food is good. The curry katsu don was actually pretty tasty

Beautiful restaurant, friendly staff. Omurice was perfect, coffee was very cool (tasted OK), coffee jelly was lacking sweetness and a bit too bitter. The bathrooms also have Japanese toilets :0

It's sneaky hard to find a great yoshoku-style cafe/izakaya even in Tokyo, so it's amazing to have one here in NYC (finally)!! Their attention to detail and original twist were so appreciated.
It's not exactly cheap, but yoshoku is always on the pricey side, even in Japan, and this is NYC after all.

Great ambience and plenty of space! Their hayashi omurice and us wagyo steak and vegetables was so good! I don’t recommend the Tori karaage appetizer because they’re small pieces and tastes more on the bland side. But overall, pretty dining place and great omurice.

They serve japanese cuisine that taste so good! The service is perfect. You should make reservation before. The ambience is really nice. And they have restroom looklike in Japan with bidet as well, it’s surprising since quite difficult to find it in NY lol!

I am allergic to soy and they went out of their way to get canola oil for me to eat. It was so sweet and so kind and the food is absolutely delicious. Excellent service, excellent vibes, excellent food. I cannot wait to go back to NYC just to eat here again.

I love this place and always have a great experience when I dine here. Wait staff are always professional and polite and attentive. I enjoy sitting at the bar because I feel like I am getting great service and can watch them brew the coffee. I always order different stuff when I go but each time I find myself trying something new. The Menu stays the same and has some unique fusion dishes likes spaghetti and tamago. This time I had the waygu beef hambugu sandwich and it was awesome. The coffee was on point, as usual. The melon fermented coffee was so delicious definitely try this.

Hi-Collar is a hidden gem that effortlessly blends the elegance of a Japanese kissaten with the creativity of a modern café. By day, it's a sleek, intimate coffee bar offering meticulously prepared pour-overs, siphon brews, and Japanese-style café fare. The attention to detail is unmatched from the brewing technique to the presentation. The atmosphere is calm and minimal, with a few counter seats that make the experience feel personal and refined.
I had their Hario pour-over and omurice, both of which were outstanding. The coffee was smooth, aromatic, and expertly balanced, while the omurice was comforting with a silky egg and flavorful demi-glace. It’s a slow, deliberate experience that rewards patience with quality. Whether you're a coffee connoisseur or just seeking a peaceful break, Hi-Collar is a rare find in the city.

I went right when they opened on a weekday and was able to get in smoothly without a reservation since it wasn’t too crowded. The atmosphere inside was nice, and the staff gave me a warm welcome. The omurice was soft and Japanese-style, which some people may love, but it might not be to everyone’s taste—especially for Americans who might find the texture a bit unfamiliar. The katsu hayashi was on the heavier side overall. I ended up with extra rice, so I wish there had been a bit more hayashi sauce. Overall, I felt the value for the price and portion size was a bit underwhelming.

Hi Collar offers a delightful slice of Japanese comfort in a cozy, stylish setting. We enjoyed the rich and savory Hayashi Omurice and Katsu Hayashi—both perfectly balanced with tender meat and deep, flavorful sauce. The Hot Cake was fluffy and nostalgic, while the newly added Honey Toast was indulgently crisp on the outside and soft inside—a true standout. Their special coffees complemented the meal beautifully, adding a refined touch to the overall experience. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. A must-visit for anyone craving authentic Japanese flavors with a modern café twist.
