We never made it to our reservation. Our Reservation was for 9:15pm and they said theres a 15min grace period. We arrived at the area around 9:22pm due to traffic and they called saying the kitchen will close at 9:30pm and they will not take us if you enter by 9:30pm. So if we entered the restaurant by 9:25pm we have 5min to order. I already felt rushed. And decided not to go.

Excellent service and food. It was my friend's birthday and a good surprise at the end was a little cake with a candle. I appreciated the gesture

Food was very good, had the 3 course pricefix..good value, and delicious. There was a table of 6 screaming 20-somethings next to us.. but noise level was fine once they left. They now have no corkage fee, so we brought our own wine. Also they dont serve hard alcohol, so no cocktail options. Would definitely go back

I’m planning a trip to Seoul and have been watching travel videos on what to get. Sotbap kept coming up and I wanted it now, so I headed to Hortus for their lunch special sotbap sets. The steak sotbap was pretty bland. The cured egg yolk elevated it, otherwise it would just be a bowl of rice with steak on top and not much seasoning. I used the tiny dried fish banchan as an umami booster. The rice did not crust up as advertised (the bowl was not hot enough), and they did not add hot water / broth to make a porridge from the nurungji as they might in Korea. The restaurant space itself is beautiful and elevated, the service was fine. The price was quite affordable given the vibe.

We made a reservation for lunch on Wednesday and there were 3 groups of two during this lunch hour. We ordered the eel and uni/ikura sets. The taste were good, however they were not so special and price were rather expensive. We could find a Korean restaurant I. The neighborhood for less.

I came here with some friends for a dinner and live performance. Overall, I have to say that the food was really great and the service was excellent. Also having live music playing as we’re dining, helps with the ambience. I definitely recommend this place for a date night or a more intimate gathering among friends.

Hortus offers a cozy and intimate dining experience, making it a great choice for couples. The Sotbap (솥밥) with Wagyu is a must-try—perfectly cooked, rich in flavor, and beautifully presented. The ambiance adds to the overall experience, with a warm and inviting atmosphere that enhances the meal. Highly recommend for a date night or a special dinner.

This was our first time here. Everything was great. First - THE FOOD. Everything was good. We did the tasting menu and wine pairing.

3 glasses of wine. Yum. The food: we loved everything we got but I would recommend these 3 dishes:
Salmon crudo
Wagyu Gui (picture / video below)
Truffle donnabe with steak.

The waitress was so nice, professional and made great recommendations.

The vibe is like a fancy yet relaxed / low key place. It’s quiet and is great for a date night. I will definitely be going back.

restaurant week 2025. got tempura trio, salmon crudo, korean smoked pasta, cacio e pepe, truffle donabe with beef, and braised short rib. food was delicious and everything looked so appetizing. service was nice but a little slow (they were super busy so understandable). no cover charge on wednesday thursday and fridays for the jazz if you’re in the lounge. lovely ambiance!

edit: came back for $30 lunch and got softshell crab / salmon sotbap. came with soup or hot noodles then dessert: sweet potato cheesecake or mango bread pudding.

This is one of my favorite korea restaurants in New York City. The food, the service, the ambiance, it has it all.
Last night me and my girls came here to get the 3 course prefix for Restaurant week. Usually the RW food portions in most places are very small, but Hortus was definitely not one of them. We were full by the end of our 2nd course (we did order Happy hour oysters too though, which was delicious and a good price).

And the service is also so good, the korean manager really made sure to take care of us (since we decided to give away our reserved table to someone else, and instead decided to sit by the bar, he took extra care for us).

Highly recommend, the best part about this place is the wagyu. It melted in my mouth! lol

The food and the service was amazing and friendly! Everyone is super friendly here and the a5 waygu Don bowl I had was flavorful and the texture was awesome. I do however need to dock them one point as they replaced the dessert options on restaurant week with vanilla ice cream, while it was still very good. It's very disappointing to pay for a meal and not have the available options to us and replaced with vanilla ice cream.

Parking: In the city.

I came to Hortus for restaurant week, which may be why we had a subpar experience, but even so I was very disappointed! Our table of 8 was sat in a dimly lit corner of the restaurant next to the kitchen (felt like a closet - upstairs had live jazz!). Half of the food was greasy/misses (easy stuff to churn out in bulk) - and stuff was constantly coming out that we didn't order. I see a lot of good ratings but I'm not leaping to come back.
