HORRIFIC. The young Irish bartender and middle aged black bouncer are nice and very professional, BUT THE CURRENT CO-OWNER (hulking old blond female) IS AWFUL! If she's working there when you visit I advise you to turn around and keep walking. I don't remember her name but she was drunk (and more probably!) hostile, entitled & disheveled. She was so inebriated, rude & aggressive that she was literally pulling cash out of my hands before I'd counted it to pay. Later she stole my money & didn't give me a drink, and I had to stoop to throwing a public fit to make sure I got my money back. In the end it was one of her regulars who gave it to me, not her. The large middle aged Latino bouncer was almost as bad. He took my bag away when I first got in when I looked away momentarily, and then claimed he didn't know it was mine (I was never more than a foot away from it). Later he took the owner's side by being menacing and purposely obtuse. I'm not 100% certain, but the large older blond owner resembles a homely woman I've seen working at Dick's Cut-Rate Hardware store on Gold Street. If I'm right then she is the owner, Shaul's, partner. That's another spot to avoid unless you really can't, though I've never had quite as horrific an experience there. Maybe because she's less inebriated during the daytime and grouchy old Shaul keeps her in check? I rarely ever write reviews, let alone negative ones... I've lived in NYC my whole life and have a thick skin, so my experience was not a minor atmosphere issue but a twisted nightmare I had the misfortune of stumbling into on the night before my birthday. It's sad because I think this place has seen better days (the longtime owner passed away recently). I pray for the co-owner's health, for she is profoundly unwell. I pray for her employees and customers as well.

DO NOT GO HERE. My friends and I were there on December 25th, 2023. We patiently conveyed our order to a blonde bartender (it was a combination of mixed drinks and beer). She was upset we didn't group our order together(meaning we didn't say 3 beers and 2 gin and tonics for example). After we got the drinks and paid for it, we were at our table and she came over (clearly very intoxicated), and proceeded to empty all our drinks on the floor in front of us and kicked us out. By the way, she got half of them wrong and overcharged us for them. We didn't try to correct them because she was being combative. We are bewildered and genuinely confused about the interaction, our only takeaway from the situation being that she was drunk and took out her frustration on us. The manager came over and proceeded to do absolutely nothing. I've been in New York for 14 years and have never had an experience like this.

Used to love this place and it’s staff and popped in all the time when I lived nearby.Got cussed out by the bartender while I was in line to take a leak because my friend supposedly did not tip enough and we did not bring our empty bottles back to the bar.Guess this bar expects their patrons to bring their bottles (or "sh*t" as the bartender so succinctly put it) back to the bar. Would have happily obliged if I was asked, no clue that this was a thing here. Bouncer offered to clean up our table about an hour before but they did not end up taking all of the bottles and glasses. I do not care that the bouncer did not clean up our table and I would never hold that against a bar, but unhesitatingly cursing and yelling at your patrons for things that other members of your staff said they would do is absolutely uncalled for.Got tossed from the bar by the bouncer when I tried to clarify things with the bartender. Thankfully the bouncer was gentle :)) but nevertheless believe they should not have grabbed me when I was just trying to talk to the bartender.I hate to write this review because I have had good experiences with the previous bartenders. Plenty of other dive bars in the area with staff that treat you with basic respect.

Come here if you want rude service when ordering drinks from Jen, the bartender. She was hella rude and probably bigoted. Fine, you don't have Grey Goose, but you don't have to be rude about it. Come here if love having a receipt thrown at you. Then have a big angry bouncer ask you to sign a check that flung she flung at you in the first place. The bouncer even tried to emasculate me by demanding that I pick up a pen that he dropped. Fu@£ this $#!+hole place. I will order my drinks at a different bar where they don't serve judgement and attitude with their drinks.

Im legally blind.... asked the bartender what they had on tap.... she told me the taps were "down there". Went elsewhere. There are too many drive bars around to even deal with the attitude.

So disappointed in International Bar... been here before when visiting NYC but this past weekend was the worst experience. Filthy tables, extremely rude and combative bartender, disgusting shots that were very overpriced. Might try again if there's a different bartender working, but the lady bartender working that night was so rude, we only stayed for our one (nasty) shot.

Famous dive in the east village, where you can still find the New York of your old dreams - the fun, ragged, dark, twilight city of neighborhood friends and toughs, a little haunted and lovable, full of drinks that hug and send you rocking, trying to get around the next corner.

A genuine, no-frills neighborhood dive of the best kind! Had so much fun one afternoon with friends visiting from California who really loved the low-key vibe of this bar.One of the friends had lived and worked as a photographer in NYC 30+ years ago, and mentioned that he misses being able to walk around and just pop into authentic local bars like this one.

Everything you want in a local bar in NYC and with free steamies for the 4th of July as the kicker ! Friendly bartender and chatty regulars make this a great one time, or more frequent, stop in the Big Apple. Cheers !
