We were stuck in stop and go I-95 traffic on the way to Maine and had enough slow driving when we bailed out at Norwalk hoping for a decent meal. We walked the street looking for dinner at 5PM when we came upon Ipanema. We were seated outside and had a hard time deciding what to order due to everything looking good. I had the monkfish and shrimp stew which was delicious. We'll definitely keep Ipanema in mind next time we drive up to Maine.
Honestly, the street that this restaurant is located on has some of the best Brazilian food in all of NYC. There's three restaurants which is great for customers as they all have an incentive to keep up excellent quality and customer service. But Ipanema restaurant really shines in so many different areas. First off, their Caipirinha is amazing, just like in Brazil. Second, while their menu has great food all around, where they really shine is the Bacalhau a Gomes de Sa served for Friday lunch. Hands down the best one I've ever tasted. Perhaps they can private message me the recipe? I promise I won't share :) But anything you order from the menu will taste fantastic. Combine this with some excellent and attentive customer service and you have a winning combination.
Good Brazilian steakhouse Good location, great people, very nice caipiriñas!! Almost like Rio de Janeiro!
After dragging my family around seeing Bryant park then Rockefeller’s center tree, we were ready to eat. I read reviews from trip advisor and they were right. Best Brazilian food in the city. For appetizers we had a variety of empanadas. They were very tasty with a crunchy crust. The fried bananas were sugar sweet. The seafood paella were delicious and plenty of seafood.I had the monkfish stew . It was great. My wife had the pan seared brazing fish . She ate the whole fish skin and all. We didn’t have dessert cause we were full. The waiters were great. They explained everything on the menu. We had a great time at Ipanema.
The food was so flavorful and delicious. It came hot and well presented. Beans and rice were free and family style at every table. The steak melted in my mouth. The Brazilian old fashion was a new twist on an old favorite and worth the money. The service was awesome; water glasses never empty.
Dear MilwaukeeAnne, Thank you for your lovely comments and for the 5*rating! We aim to please and so glad to hear we reached our goal. We hope to see you again soon on a return visit to NYC.
We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. The Caipirinhas were excellent as was everything we ate. A great choice.
Comfortable and cozy for a party of two. Wine was great, as was the Abacate Recheado (avocado & lump crab) appetizer. My daughter had the Bacalhau A Bras (Cod), and I had chicken (Frango Grelhado). We enjoyed both but it was the kind, fast and great service that will bring us back.
We dined here on New Year's Eve. The food was wonderful, as was the service. It is reasonably priced. Best flan I ever had! Plan to go back the next time we are in NY!
Many favorites we enjoyed in Rio with good service. The Caipirinhas were perfect as was the octopus salad but the empanadas were overcooked. We shared a very good mixed grill although the beef was tough, which came with potato chips and black beans with rice. We added delicious fried bananas. The Spanish Temparanirillo (?sp?) wine was excellent. Service was good. It is in the Little Brazil area.

Have visited this restaurant a few times throughout the past twenty years. This is my first since they relocated a few doors down. We were excited to return and it did not disappoint. First off, I suggest a reservation as they're always busy. Our server was friendly and prompt. The food was tasty, although my daughter's steak was slightly over cooked. The paella was as delicious as ever. Wish they didn't get rid of the yucca fries and the potatoes balls they used to serve. They havze a delicious Brazilian soda, which is a citrusy ginger ale type drink. It is refreshing and not overly sweet. In our opinion, this restaurant was fair price for a place in the city. Our total for three entrees was $120.
