Joey Bats Café is one of my favorite spots for Portuguese treats! This was my first time visiting their Essex Market location. I came a bit later in the day, so the pastry I wanted was sold out, but I was still able to grab one of my favorites, the blueberry Pasteis de Nata, and as always, it was delicious. Joey Bats truly has some of the best Portuguese tart so when I find one near I always get some. The café is inside the Essex Market, with plenty of seating both upstairs...
The egg tarts are sooooo yummy. Definitely recommend all flavors: original, blueberry, and passion fruit. I heard the tarts are shipped orginally all the way from Portugal. Staff Mayara is literally angel 💕
If you enjoy Portuguese Pastel de Nata, then Joey Bats is the place to go. During my visit they were selling three varieties; Original, Passion Fruit, and Cinnamon. Being a purist, I stuck to the Original and was quite pleased with the delicate, flaky crust and the delicious custard filling. The coffee was great too. It was a treat to get a Cinnamon stick for the coffee.
