We were in NYC for 2 short days. After looking through different reddit recommendations and online searches, I've decided to try Kanoyama. The service was prompt. Our reservation was at 5:30, the restaurant wasn't busy when we started, by the time we were done. It was busy and all tables were full.

Walked in here on a Sunday afternoon for dinner and was seated right away.
The sushi was overall pretty good. We got the sushi special and sashimi special. It is kind of on the pricey side but overall the price isn't too bad given the quality of fish.
One thing that takes away one star from atmosphere is that it was quite warm inside the restaurant and the temperature outside was 90s at the time.

Excellent quality sashimi and great selection of appetisers! Black cod was so delicious and perfectly cooked as the fish just flakes 😋. Corn tempora was crunchy and sweet.

Tbh did really enjoy my dinner experience - had a sake and chirashi bowl, was extremely happy about my choice. It’s pretty noise inside during dinner time, but in general love this space.
My friend and I come here every year to celebrate our birthdays and it never disappoints. The sushi is amazing, and reasonably priced considering the very high quality! The appetizers are fantastic too.

Service is great, atmosphere is nice - I traded origami with one of the staff. That was fun.
The omakase falls kind of flat here. It started strong with some interesting dishes, but one of the courses was randomly tempura'd vegetables.
Another course was undercooked ramen noodles sprinkled with parmesan. It wasn't edible.
There was one or two pieces of fish that tasted good, but every piece of fish was dipped in wasabi soy sauce so they all tasted the same. Not one of them was allowed to show the full flavor of the fish.
The highlight was getting to pick my sake glass, and the toro and uni were good. Otherwise it wasn't a great omakase experience.
