L&L Hawaiian Barbecue serves up a variety of Hawaiian comfort foods from plates of barbecued meat + rice + macaroni salad to saimin (noodle dishes) to musubis and burgers & sandwiches.

picked up dinner here back in July. meant to review sooner, but LIFE.

ordered BBQ Chicken plate-- thin slices of chicken in bbq sauce. the chicken is a mix of sweet and savory. thin grilled slices of meatiness. the rice is essential bc it soaks up the bbq sauce and grilled chicken flavors. the Hawaiian style macaroni salad brings the tasty carbs of tanginess & creaminess with a touch of sweetness. the way the plate mixes flavors into satisfying umami-ness. the helping is generous and i split into two meals because there was so much of everything.

SPAM Musubi--served warm. grilled spam + rice, wrapped in crispy seaweed. this was fine. all the flavors are there. however I would stick with the bigger bites on the menu or another side order os macaroni salad.

the interior is well-maintain, clean, and casual sit-down interior. there's a decent amount of tables if you want to dine in. the staff is friend;y and accommodating. my to-go order was neatly wrapped up and bagged.

if you are looking for a different kind of comfort food, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue has got a lot of options for you. it's also nice to have a place to grab some enjoyable Hawaiian calories without a 10-hour plane flight! though, i'd still rather be in Maui or the Big Island--when are getting that teleportation thing going?? Excellent. Food was delicious, service was friendly. And tables were clean. I had the chicken katsu bowl. Katsu was crispy and juicy, rice was warm and fluffy, macaroni was nice and soft.

I have been coming here for maybe over a year now. I enjoy introducing friends to this spot and coming here casually. The food is always great and others can easily agree! I also usually feel like I’m in a good environment whenever I come.
But a friend and I came on the evening of 10/27/25 and there was a white woman at the register who just had a very unsettling vibe. Not typically what I encounter at L&L. As a customer, I felt like her way of communicating was not as welcoming as it could’ve been. I also got charged about $10 more for a party of 2 than when I usually go with someone, and this friend got a cheaper meal item so that didn’t add up. She didn’t seem to know what was on the menu as well. My friend wanted a combo plate with included sides and she kept saying it wasn’t allowed even though the sign above the register says so. Also, when I ordered the seafood (fried fish) & bbq (bbq short ribs) combo, she said i can’t have that and have to get shrimp with the fish and ribs are separate. That makes no sense. I usually order what I originally stated just fine with no issues. She charged me for extra stuff that should’ve originally came with the combo plate. Somehow, I ended up having to get shrimp as part of the combo. She also didn’t give me the change back even though it was a few cents, that paired with the whole experience of communicating with her wasn’t the best feeling as a paying customer. Not sure if I’d order if I saw her again.

The food here is always good and I can always count on it for that Hawaiian barbecue chicken vibe that I’ve always liked. It takes a while to get here, but that’s because I’m a little further away so it’s worth it! They are also very accommodating and helpful if you call them with any concerns

Your kids won't get bored at this place. The intimate environment is enhanced by great service. The employee made us feel particularly valued. They serve fresh food that's visually impressive. I wish I'd listened to recommendations earlier.

The expense is justified by the experience. You can experience unique flavor profiles that delight consistently. I don't have enough positive words for this place. Workers are exceptionally nice and flexible, with quick food delivery. Thoroughly impressed.

The prices reflect fair value for fresh-tasting dishes. The staff shows real care for your experience. I enjoy the atmosphere they've created and their food offerings. Most dishes demonstrate quality ingredients. The ambiance here is enjoyable.

The staff has changed. Definitely won't be coming back. How do you not have a bathroom for paying customers ?

Ordered the three meat platter. It was just ok. Everything tasted the exact same. Which is ok seasoning but if you order three different meats you’re kind of expecting it to be different. Tables were sticky inside and the whole time I waited for the food there was an employee arguing with a delivery driver if you want one or two meats is ok.

This was the first Hawaiian restaurant that we have found to have a loco moco that tasted like the ones we had in Hawaii. I got the bowl, partner got the platter. The only difference is bowl has less food. Still delicious! The spam musubi was also excellent.

It's always an adventure. The establishment's head person demonstrated remarkable friendliness. The limited dishes we tried were of acceptable standard. The cost is just right for what you get. The ownership's commitment appears throughout.

As a pair of homesick Hawaiians living in the East village we couldn’t have been happier to see L&L pop-up right in the neighborhood. Everyone at the store is super nice. The grinds are Ono! Good to feel the aloha spirit in NYC! Mahalo!
