The staff, the atmosphere, and the service is remarkable!
Great food and service.
Years ago when I was a child, my mother took me to La Fonda Del Sol at Rockefeller Center. I have wonderful memories however this experience was Far different. A Spanish restaurant that serves tapas should be much better than what we experienced. One of my favorites, dates wrapped in bacon seemed as if they had been pre-cooked and sitting around waiting for someone to order them. While the waitstaff did replace with a fresher order, it wasnt much better. Our shrimp in garlic sauce also came out cold and had to be returned. The muscles were adequate. While I know this is in Grand Central Station and most likely gets a large computer crowd, the food should be better. For what it ended up costing us we could've gone somewhere else, and next time will.
Last time we dined here, about 2 weeks prior on Valentine's Day, the food was lukewarm and the plate cold. This time, our food came out hot and the presentation was nice. We recommend their octopus and croquettes as starters. Their salmon and chilean bass for entrees was delicious Service, however, was inconsistent. Our wait person, albeit friendly, was slow in bringing our drinks. When one of my guests asked for a second drink, it took two follow up requests to have it brought over. At the end, when we ordered desserts, our two orders of hot tea was never delivered but it was charged on our final bill. The upper part of the restaurant where we were seated was not full. It was a Tuesday evening, early dinner and not a holiday, so we're not sure why the inconsistency in service. We have eaten here several times and it's hit or miss at times with the service. Perhaps retraining or coaching wait staff would help.
Spacious location and great staff. The food was just okay. I went for lunch and the staff were very accommodating, but the appetizer and flat iron left a bit to be desired.
One of the best places in the city for paella. Period. I prefer the seafood with squid ink.
Valentine's Day dinner was delicious, we appreciated the fact you could bring your own wine bottle with no corkage fee. The meal was well prepared and tasty. The staff was friendly and attentive. Our only complaint is that we were offered ice and bottled water both still or sparkling , but were not told that this was an extra cost. We did not mind paying the extra amount we just thought it should have been stated by our server.
Difficult to find but pleasant decor. Waiter very helpful , service good . Food ok not special in any way , tapas mediocre , suckling pig disappointing with a pair of ghastly sauces in little metal cups served on the plate , one a particularly sticky sweet pineapple concoction. Bar crowd cheery and looks a nice place to meet after work but not for dinner .
I always love La Fonda del Sol! It's a go to for biz meals. In fact, it's always my first choice when folks I'm dining with are coming to me. Why? Food is delicious!

The hostess went above and beyond giving us a great table so we all could watch the television. Huge hit with my out of town friends. Plus the food was great and very shareable. Thank you
We weren't overly impressed, noticing immediately that the restaurant week menu was severely limited when choosing the paella. We declined to go that route, and instead made some choices from the regular menu. One we chose lacked flavor because of a change the restaurant made, and when we made a suggestion to our server what could be improved, were not offered any alternative for our general dissatisfaction. The other dishes we chose were merely serviceable; nothing we ate was spectacular that made us feel it was worth our time or money, or that we could rave about here or another restaurant review site. We would classify our experience there as ‘alright', but wouldn't make a point of visiting again when in NYC.
The eggplant main that they added was excellent. Sadly, they have also re-done / updated / ruined the spinach empanadas, which used to be the single best thing on the menu. Service continues to be mixed. Servers walk around without checking in or any sense of alertness to see if customers want their check etc — despite the fact that their main clientele are business folks who generally have deadlines. Do like the fact that you can have a conversation in the main dining room. Hope they will take the constructive feedback to heart as I would like to visit more frequently.
Had dinner with family in more quiet dining area vs. lounge. Wasn't too crowded, and we had great service. Since the paella is made to order and some in my family don't eat meat, they swapped out the chicken and chorizo for salmon and we had a seafood mixed paella (with shrimp, clams, squid as well). The grilled octopus was very tender, and the calamari was incredibly soft (fresh) with a delicious sauce. Everything was excellent. Highly recommend, but it is expensive.
Our group of six well traveled epicureans had nothing but rave reviews of the food. Each Tapas was delicious and beautifully presented. We sampled all of them. The paellas were all delicious. Again we sampled all three offering on the prix fixe menu. The vegetarian options were excellent. The best part of the evening was our attentive and informative servers led by Estelle. Five stars for service on a quiet Monday evening.
