It was good, not great. But I won't complain. We were a table of 9. Our plates were served at about the same time (within a few min of eachother, which is good for a large party). Pasta portions were small. I had Pasta Caccio Pepe and it was a small bundle of pasta in a large plate for ~$28. If I'm spending $28 for a pasta dish, I do expect a good amount of food, since pasta cost about $2-5/lb retail. My serving was about 1 cup of pasta. Weak imo. Atmosphere was nice....
Unfortunately it feels like the quality has declined. The lunch special was okay, but unimaginative. One of the “mains” was tomato and arugula. But more worrisome was the service. I booked for my friend's birthday and everything was off. One server introduced herself and then was never seen again. Another took over but took ages to take our order. Drinks didn't arrive until we were almost done with the first course and were so watered down the flavor was almost undetectable....
Our second visit to Eataly Flatiron in 2 days, and both times we have been quietly impressed over the general atmosphere, food and service. However.... our second visit took almost 15 minutes between being seated and being asked for our drinks order - not great. Also, when choosing the bread basket, bread was not as fresh as it should have been - it should be served warm, not almost rock hard. And how can a Italian restaurant right next to its own baker run out of focaccia?! Still,...
