Always love hotpot. Lao Jie is always great. We usually eat at the one in Brooklyn but we were in the city and wanted to try it out. They have more options on the menu as opposed to the Brooklyn locations. I always go for the shrimp paste that’s my favorite. The service is very good and helpful. If you plan on going there is a discount with cash but they do accept credit card. When we went it was lunch on a weekday so there weren’t many people. Very clean and very quiet. You wouldn’t think that you were eating in the city

Tasty AYCE hotpot, I liked the place because you can try three different flavors of soup. It's very loud though, they sang happy birthday like three times while we were there. I was very full afterwards, there's a large selection of meat and vegetables and I wasn't missing anything. They also give you these milk buns while you eat, and milk tea pudding at the end as free dessert which was sooo good. We also got the watermelon slush drink which was refreshing. It's pretty expensive though, was about $45 per person.

Overall the service is good, but still have room to improve. The food is fresh, but the beef cut was good initially then became sloppy.., not sure what causes it, but we did share our concern with the shop.

The photos don’t do it justice. The food was really delicious and great value. The skewers and the fish for the hot pot were fabulous. All you can eat crab too!

I've been twice to this location already and it's definitely impressing me more than 99 Favors haha. After you place your order, everything comes out pretty fast, even despite the insane dinner rush time dining hours. They did miss some items, but no worries, we just ordered them again. We were ordering five plates of fatty beef at a time, multiple rounds, (we had a big group!) and they didn't even blink an eye ahah. Had a great time, the quality of the food is pretty good too. I ordered crab and there was so much roe and they weren't skimping out per order either!

5 - Exceeded expectations Great pricing for AYCE Hot Pot. Lots of options, and service is very fast. Would recommend.

Got the private room as we do for many many birthdays. The minimum charge for a room is $288 and the time of this post per person is $32. They have two tables in the room. One with 6 hotpot's and one with 4. There's also karaoke. Food is usual hot pot staples with crab shrimp and clams. Everything was fresh and yes we will be back.

Lao jie is one of the best skewer / hotpot restaurants in lower Manhattan - it's hard NOT to recommend to anyone craving that skewer / hotpot combo in an AYCE style. Outside of its retro-grade aesthetics, I need to point out that when I went, Lao Jie's service was top-tier ! Waiters and waitresses were extremely attentive, always refilled water, and food came out relatively quickly. Fish tofu skewers were really additive, couldn't get enough of it! Overall, had a great time and I think the selection of food justifies the price. At the end of your meal, you can ask for as many amounts of "milk pudding", which was such a great way to end our dinner.

They made us wait for a long time and let others behind us go I think they forgot about us and then when my friend asked again they had a table for us. The food was good but unlike other hotpot places I've been to, the hotpot smell sticks onto your hair and clothes for days despite washing several times to try and get rid of the smell

New York has an abundance of hotpot restaurants and this one did not disappoint for lunch!! It was AYCE for about $50 per person after taxes and tips (we each ordered a soft drink).Sauce bar was not as extensive as other places, but adequate enough for your essentials.Service was great when we were there (mainly because we went at noon when they just opened).

One of my favorite places to go with a large friend group. I've been here at least three times. I love the split bowl options. They have the option for individual, but split bowls are better for bonding in my opinion! My personal favorites are the spicy broth, tofu skins, fish balls, and any beef. the service is always good. There is an ATM if you forget or don't have enough cash.

Ambiance (5/5): There was plenty of seating on a random weekday lunch hour. I love-love-loved the interior design; it feels both like inside a jungle with a fake fire divider in the middle, retro TVs along the way, and a back private room with real windows between the walls. Lao Jie means old town hence the décor of the traditionally dressed women on the wall artwork, retro cassette tapes, sewing machine, etc.Service (5/5): They took our jackets and sealed them up in a plastic garbage bag under the table to avoid stinking it up. I also really appreciated the staff uniform of the red handkerchiefs and striped shirts, which strangely reminded me of a French person. I liked how the menu had photos and we placed the orders with the staff. They were quick to bring out and clear our used dishes.Food:AYCE hotpot + BBQ skewers ($44): Definitely opt solely for their AYCE hotpot—the bbq skewers were just ok and half of the meat we got was either too tough or not great. The broth was good and plenty of flavors to try at the sauce station. Their house sauce was great! At the end, we were given a free dessert of some kind of jelly pudding that sweet and tasty. It may not be the best hotpot I’ve had but for the cost and great service, I would recommend to friends!
