They have some great noodle soups and pulled tea. We are regulars here but sadly I think I’ll stop coming coz any other main dishes like rendang chicken or drunken-man noodles were quite disappointing.

We had a reservation for nine, and they didn’t honour it

35 dollars for beef rendang that's as tough as shoe leather.

Food here was very underwhelming, almost to the point where it’s borderline bad and nothing memorable. Mind you, I was very hungry prior to coming to this restaurant but I barely ate. I just feel like there are so many other Thai/Malay places like this in the city, at this price point, with wayyyy better food. Service was good but overall very unimpressed by their food. Also, it was incredibly loud in there.

Amazing food, 5 stars. But the atmosphere ruined it. They operate this place like a fast food joint. First thing we were told when walking in was that there’s a 90 minute cap on the table because unfortunately they’re so heavily booked that night. That’s not unfortunate, that’s perfectly fixable. Just space out your bookings to 2 hours.
The rest of the service was choreographed to meet the tight back to back a schedules. You ordered something and then BAM it’s slapped on the table 60 seconds later. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy swift service, but I also want to have some time between courses and do what I came there for in the first place - enjoy the company I came with and have some food.
Given that type of atmosphere what I found absolutely audacious was that when paying the tip scale started at 30% with the minimum being 20%. Are you serious??!!
It’s unfortunate because it’s otherwise an outstanding restaurant.

We were expecting so much from this place since it has 4.5 stars review and the price was a little pricy for the dish. Atmosphere was nice, service was good but the food was very basic for a manhattan restaurant. I could get this in queens for a lesser price.

I love duck meat! And it can be very tricky to make the dish… since the skin can be so fatty and meat might be chewy in some parts. But we had a great experience.

Great service in a nice looking restaurant and very close to other places as well. None of the food was necessarily bad, but the flavor was lacking, especially compared to Malaysian food I had in Houston
Wheelchair accessibility: I’m sure they wouldn’t deny you a seat, but the restaurant gets very crowded during dinner.

A must visit for some authentic Asian food experience.
Came here for a dinner with a friend and the place was jam packed. Being a very small place the only qualm I have is the tables are small and really close to each other .
Coming to the food , started with a Tandoori Satay and it was flavorful , perfectly grilled and the Indian tandoori flavor was really nice . I wish they provided a dip with that .
The butter garlic came in next and was bursting with flavors of curry leaves and butter , the soft shell crab was delicious.
For entree, we had the Nasi Lemak which is a Malaysian platter with a portion of Chicken Rendang, Shrimp , pickles and the best rice I’ve ever had thr Coconut rice . It was truly a filling meal and I’ve earmarked the rendang as something I’m ordering next time I’m here .
We also had the Asam Laksa which is one of the most unique things I’ve had . The noodle soup is flavorful , Tangy , fishy but absolutely delicious if you love sardines. I would say if you like seafood and tangy food you can try this one .
Overall a great meal and would definitely want to be back to try some more soon.

the food quality is far below expectation. Ordered hainan chicken rice, lasa and satay chicken.
Hainan chicken rice way too soft and taste strange.
Lasa also disappointing.
Satay chicken is good.
The minimum tip is 20%, including tax. lol. The menu show 30% tip. Speechless.
Surprised for the high rating. not worthy it

Been visiting on and off for a few years now, so here’s my 2 cents as a seasoned patron.
Getting here as a non-native can be daunting, given the sprawling nature of Union Sq station. I suggest going up via the nearest exit and walking overland versus looking hopelessly for the exit recommended by GMaps.
Peak times will require booking or a wait period, otherwise they usually have a table for two. Interior is dark and cozy with plenty of wood.
For today I had one of the lunch specials, with bihun goreng as entree. It's cooked and seasoned well, though I prefer fluffier noodles (maybe they couldn't get it here). There was plenty of protein packed in there as well.
Prior to this I've had the laksa and chicken rice, everything is at least decent if not pretty good.
Prices are NYC fair(with tips). Recommended

The surprise dish here was the roti with egg, which kept the crispiness and lightness of roti while adding the heft of an egg. Really well-done, I could eat that for breakfast. Also the salt and pepper okra were excellent, clean and fresh and not slimy at all. To me this salt and pepper okra is an elevation of the classic Southern friend okra, adding Asian technique and better salting.
The soup was decent, enjoyable enough for me. I might order other things though when I go next. The drunk-man noodles had good color and smell. Really it'll be other protein presentations that I want to try next.
edit: forgot to add that the ambience is repurposed street hawker stall which is excellent. And the staff is really really good, very thorough and pacing the dishes well in coordination with the kitchen.

DOUBLE AND TRIPPLE CHECK YOUR CHECK/BILL.
WAIT STAFF ADD THINGS TO YOUR CHECK TO BOOST THE CHECK UP. THAT WAY THEY GET A BIGGER TIP. MANAGMENT IS PART OF THIS OR THEY LOOK THE OTHER WAY.
Day - Christmas Eve ( 12/24/24). Time - 8.30pm. First of all I am a big fan of Salil Mehta's joints. I have been to 5 of his restaurants. I have written 5 star reviews on them. I am former restaurant owner in NYC. I am a foodie. I have written reviews of restaurants in 43 countries. Love & loved the food. Good portions and flavor.
I usually dont check item by item on the check. Just hand over the CC. For some reason I checked. My check was $100 over. When I asked waiter went back to in charge. They knew they got busted. Excuse was, they added the next table check to our check. That means, they are not going to charge the next table? I doubt it. I don't even know why tipped them. I didn't want to make make big deal on Christmas eve and ruin my day.

I went to Laut with four of my colleagues. We sat down and were about to order. At this point, I excused myself and left.
The noise level was absolutely beyond anything that I could endure. It simply drove me out of the restaurant. I was unable to hear anything said by my colleagues; unable to hear the waitress.
The cacophony was intolerable, and this was due entirely to the acoustics of the room. The floor is ceramic tile; the walls are brick. This is something that the restaurant can cure, if they care to. It doesn't have to have to be this way.
I've visited this place several times and have tried nearly all their vegetarian and vegan dishes. While I must say that many of them taste somewhat similar, there are a few standouts that I would highly recommend: the satay tofu, ultimate curry laksa, and roti canai.
