Walked 30 minutes to get here just to find out they didn't update their website to show that it's under new management and temporarily closed.New management is not off to a good start.

Place is closed. Been before and it was always delicious. We traveled 40 minutes to get here this morning and it's permanently closed.

I’m Glad this place shutdown. The imbecile at the grill doesn’t even know how to cook an egg. Egg was running like an olympic athlete. Owner is just as clueless, she doesn’t even know where she is half the time. Garbage establishment riddled with mismanagement, incompetence and greed. If this is all I had to eat in France then I would have surrendered during WWII as well.

I have eaten here before and loved it. Unfortunately today we went in and was told food would be about 20-25 minutes, which we did not mind. While waiting the owner got into a physical altercation with the chef that was quitting. She was hitting and screaming at the chef in front of all the tables waiting for their food. It was completely inappropriate.Food came cold and was missing items. Will never return here.

From five to zero stars. Oh, La Grainne. What happened? You used to be amazing. The quality of the food has been going down for a while (on my penultimate visit, I received charred escargot and found a hair on my bread, but did not raise these as I knew the staff was overwhelmingly busy, and they were kind, and I generally try not to be fussy at restaurants during a labor shortage when everyone is stretched thin.)But sadly now even the once-welcoming and warm service has plummeted into straight hostility.I brought a friend from out of town and was humiliated by how rude the staff was from start to finish (including shouting at us when we sat at an empty table outside — there were at least a dozen free tables with menus all set up, so we took a seat, apparently this was a grave offense! — and double-charging us for a glass of orange juice with a fly in it when we sent it back and asked for a replacement, then saying “well, you sat outdoors, it’s not our problem” when I gently pointed this error on our bill.)I asked if management had changed and was told that the owners were the same, but had given staff very strict new rules recently, including: charge for everything, even if it’s sent back, even if it’s dirty. What?!?!I sadly won’t be back again and based on how empty this once-thriving neighborhood spot was on my last visit, I think many others feel the same. The owners have taken something special and sullied it with greed and a poor grasp of why people came in the first place.

The brunch was egg-selent. My partner had a great, standard breakfast. I had the "müseli" which was a heavily sweetened granola with large fruit pieces. Their almond croissant tasted like street-side candied almonds which was unexpected, but exciting. All in all, I would go again. Only caveat was that it was unclear what their AC machines were doing because it was so hot we were both sweating, but we could hear them running.

Go to Resto near the Whitney. Delicious crêpes and other French cuisine. Tarte Tatin was hugely disappoting though. The pastry crust was exquisite but très peu and the rest was composed of quarter chunks of caramelized apple, only made palatable w vanilla ice cream, of which there was très peu.

This is a lovely little and sweet cafe. A little brasserie with a heart. Very authentically French with wonderful crepes, both savory and sweet, omelets and more. Close to the high line.

How disappointing, in a woman-owned business (a fellow Irishwoman?), to be given the silent treatment by a male server - that is, when he finally recognized that I hadn't been served at all. He made no attempt to discover or cater to my wishes, desires, whimsies, tip-leaving potential, status as fellow human graciously navigating this vale of tears - nothing. Ordinarily, I would complete the ritual of chocolate mousse (classic/good) with coffee but, not being offered it, I didn't bother. (Lost sale.) I didn't even rate any enquiry as to (the pleasure/quality of) my experience or a valediction when I left. This, in the "hospitality" business! What is up with that?

A Chelsea institution for decades, Le Grainne Cafe is a French bistro-style cafe that serves all the basics but excels at brunch. Their specialty is crepes and they have many variations, both sweet and savory. The service is friendly and casual.
