Librae Bakery is a true neighborhood treasure. Their lattes are smooth and perfectly balanced, the croissants are buttery and flaky, and the focaccia is light yet full of flavor. The staff is warm and welcoming, adding to the charm of the place. One of my favorite details is watching the team work behind the glass of the bakery it’s like getting a front-row seat to the art of baking.

Legit croissants! Buttery, crisp crust that litters the tables with crumbs, soft glutenous flesh that stretches and pulls like melted cheese. $4.5. Very reasonable for one of the best croissants I had in US. Foccacia was thick and fluffy with a nice crunch bottom. Drip coffee was excellent. Prices on high side except, again, for the croissant. Addendum (August 2025): Just returned from a vacation in Paris. I did not find croissants as good as this place in NY. To be fair, I didn't go looking specifically for best croissants but I went to many cafes/patisseries/boulangeries and when I saw an attractive croissant, I ordered one and none of them made me forget Librae Bakery.

I came back on a weekend afternoon after trying the pistachio croissant here two years ago because I couldn’t stop thinking about it. There was a bit of a line, but it moved quickly. I ordered a matcha and the pistachio croissant, while it wasn’t warm this time, it was still packed with pistachios and just as delicious as I remembered.

The whole pistachio nuts used as toppings for the pistachio croissant were completely rancid. They were bitter and spoiled the taste of the rest of the croissant. The chemical breakdown of these fats can lead to harmful compounds such as aflatoxins which are potent carcinogens. So this not only slightly reduced my wallet's lifespan, it took off a small chunk from my lifespan too. For this price and reputation I'd expect a bit more quality.

Swung by Librae Bakery on Cooper Square for a quick grab-and-go and ended up happily stuffed. I took their egg focaccia to go: crisp, chewy focaccia base, a soft-set egg, a bright, tangy Mediterranean red sauce, and a scatter of fresh cilantro. Simple, savory, and seriously satisfying.
Dessert was the date toffee cookie—chewy in the middle, crunchy around the edges, sticky caramel hits from the dates, crisp toffee shards, and a light sprinkle of salt tying everything together. Hard to pin down, easy to demolish.
Service was friendly and fast—perfect since there’s no restroom and I was headed back out the door. For a quick pastry fix that punches above its weight, Librae has you covered.

Had a really disappointing experience at Librae.
My girlfriend and I were excited to finally try this popular bakery. We ordered the focaccia bread and a cappuccino. The focaccia was decent, though it was cold and clearly had been sitting out for a while — which I understand, since we arrived past lunchtime.
What was truly unacceptable, however, was the coffee service. I ordered a cappuccino and waited 20 minutes before checking in with the barista, who assured me it was being prepared. I waited another 10 minutes and still hadn’t heard my name called. When I went to the register to follow up, the cashier immediately accused me of not having purchased anything — instead of simply asking for my name or checking the order list. That alone was upsetting, but what followed was worse: another staff member finally checked and confirmed that my drink had never even been entered into the system.
Rather than offering a sincere apology or even a complimentary drink, they casually asked if I wanted them to make it now — after I’d already been waiting over 40 minutes. At that point, I asked for a refund and left.
I’m sure their pastries and drinks have potential, but with service like this, it’s hard to imagine coming back.
