I came here two weeks ago & I always make my way out here when I’m in NYC. These are the best cocktails in NYC, hands down. The atmosphere is perfect!

I’ve always loved lovers of today but I had the most insane experience there tonight. My friend ordered a beer and I ordered a gin and tonic and as I went to pay, the bartender told us that tipping was mandatory and we’d be “thrown out” of the bar if we didn’t tip. She literally stood over us as we paid to monitor whether we were tipping, and when we selected “no tip” because of her nasty behavior, she aggressively told us she would void the transaction so we could rectify the situation and tip to be allowed to stay in the bar. When I got confused by that and told her tipping was extra and not required, she said “no it isn’t”. I’ll be monitoring my credit card charges over the next couple of days because frankly I don’t trust her not to commit fraud on my card. Also, my friend and I have both worked in the service industry and completely understand what it’s like to survive on tips, but it’s crazy to think you’re entitled to them and to harass customers over what would’ve amounted to a $2 tip max... and honestly, I probably would’ve tipped well if she hadn’t acted that way… with so many bars having cheaper drinks and better service, I won’t be back at lovers anytime soon. If you do wind up there, go to the bar in the front and avoid the psycho blonde emo bartender in the back. Extortion isn’t cute.

Staff was really kind and professional, drinks were pretty good but it was just way too loud for a conversation. Cute for a date night, maybe just not a first date.

I loved this bar, it was my favorite in the neighborhood, but I have had my credit card stolen out of my bag TWICE here. I had my bag zipped closed and under my shoulder and didn’t even take my wallet out the second time because I didn’t want to risk it and someone managed to get into my bag and steal my card. I didn’t want to return after it happened the first time but I was in a group that wanted to go here and was assured by the bouncer that the situation was being monitored. I had one beer the second time this happened and was fully aware and cautious and they still managed to steal my wallet. I also found another empty wallet ransacked on the floor that I returned to the bartender. People have also had phones stolen here for the last two months. They have done nothing to monitor or respond to the ongoing situation or check security footage. Something insanely sketchy is going on here, don’t pay to get your stuff stolen!!

I have lost my AirPods here and the app FindMy shows they are still here, but no one has bothered to answer any email or instagram messages. What kind of a business are you if you don’t have a number available on google or don’t care answering emails? I have also went to the bar and left my number at their door but they chose to ignore me.
Solid drinks and cool bar with so many rooms it feels like a labyrinth. Cozy and intimate feel. Good music taste/volume. Can get crowded on the weekends and overheat small white girls from Wisconsin.

This bar has a notoriously bad rap for underage people coming in. It really pleases me to read that management is taking an active role with getting them out. Friends are local to this spot, so we'll probably come by more often so I'm not standing next to undergrads.
