Order and pick up your lunch at the window. No need to go indoors.

Everything from the food to the atmosphere is the closest you will get to an authentic tonkatsu restaurant in Japan. Little touches like the model food in the window as you go in, the large laminated menu with overly stylized pictures of the food, and the pile of shredded cabbage that comes with your katsu make it feel like the real deal.

Came here for lunch. Since there's no indoor dining, we sat outside. Lucky today is not that cold, plus they have a heater next to the table. I ordered the Pork Lion Cutlet & Fried Shrimp Combo. It comes with soup, rice, potato salad & cabbage as salad. The soup is pretty tasty and it keep me warm, especially when you are eating outdoor at this cold weather. The pork is cooked to perfection, crispy outside and tender and moist inside. Potato salad is good. The food get cold faster when you are eating outdoor. But overall the food is really good. The serve is really good. I would go back again and try the curry dishes next time.

Delicious Berkshire katsu with ample fresh shredded cabbage. Very succulent and soft with a light batter. I'll be back to try other katsu items!

Everything is delicious! My favorites are the kurobuta pork, karaage(fried chicken), takoyaki, agedashi tofu. Great prices and great service. Very authentic, ran by Japanese people.

Who does not love tonkatsu! I wish I can go back to Japan to try again their tonkatsu, but this restaurant is so close to it! Location: It is located in E 45th St, pretty close to Grand Central Station. The interior is af course Japanese inside, due to covid limited seatings are allowed. They have outdoor seating too! Service: due to COVID, I ordered online and pick it up and no interaction with the crew! Food: Their Tonkatsus are the beast, pretty close to what I ate in Japan. I love the PORK LOIN CUTLET, so crispy outside and tender and tasty inside! We usually order the PARTY TRAY, it’s $30 but everything is there. It has SHRIMP KATSU, PORK KATSU, CHICKEN KATSU, SAUSAGE, JAPANESE STYLE FRIED CHICKEN! They have bento boxes too which is good if you are by yourself and want to have a quick lunch. Also, I ordered NORIBEN, it is sort of appetizer, it has everything katsu, egg, bulgogi, fried chicken and pickled raddish. They have TAKOYAKI too which is deliciously good! Price rating: 8/10, quite expensive but not that bad for the deliciousness! Been here multiple times and definitely coming back for more! Get the NORIBEN it has everything!

Best tonkatsu place in NY. Also my favorite Japanese spot. This is a no tips restaurant. Currently due to the pandemic, they are offering huge discounts on alcohol. Order some to go!You can never go wrong with their curries and pork Katsu.

I tried the katsu oyakudon for lunch. Perhaps it is because I got it to go and it steamed a little bit while going home, but it really didn't strike me as a standout dish. It was OK. I know it's in midtown Manhattan but $19 seems a little bit too high for a dish. I guess it is the same portion and price for both lunch and dinner though.

Had a lunch there two weeks ago. Food is ordinary at best. Didn’t feel comfortable not able to leave gratuity... after all it is located in NYC.

I originally wanted to dine in (outside) but I accidentally ordered takeout and by the time I walked out with my order, all the outside tables were full. Suffice to say, it was still pretty tasty when I was able to eat it 2.5 hours later. I got the berkshire pork cutlet set, it was just a bit thicker than the typical pork cutlet but taste wise honestly I couldn't tell the difference. Maybe it's because it had been steaming a bit in the box and I also re-heated it in the microwave? It was a damn good cutlet though. It also came with worchestire sauce and a kind of miso mustard sauce on the side. Wow did they make sure you get your money's worth! I got a huge heaping of rice too! Like two or three bowls worth. Miso soup was tasty and I liked the addition of the wakame in there. Whenever I get miso soup at other places, it only has a few small pieces of tofu and some green onions. And cabbage salad! I love eating it with curry rice but just tonkatsu not so much. So I made a small serving of okonomiyaki with it! I liked how they packaged everything separately so that nothing would get too soggy.

Awesome katsu and curry spot. Their curry is my favorite so far in the city. Good lunch spot and fast delivery.

This spot never fails to impress me. With there no tip policy to there amazing menu, it takes a part of me straight to Japan. Matsunoya was introduced to me by my girlfriend because I was craving Katsu curry and she brought me here. Instantly I fell in love with the amazing menu and options they had. The service is quick and food arrives in a timely fashion. I always order the pork katsu (D1 on the menu) and get it with set b (cabbage salad and miso soup). The gyaza was simply amazing crunch on the outside and soft and steamy in the inside. The pork was cooked to perfection with an amazing crust on the outside to compliment the curry and sticky rice. Matsunoya has never failed to impress me with their food and I always go with food-coma. 10/10 for amazing food and service. :)
