I wish I took a picture of how blackened the avocado in the avocado and egg sandwich looked, but I tried to explain to them that the sandwich had a bad smell. I understand Avocado might smell after warming the sandwich up, but the croissant was stale and smelly avocado made the taste worst. Despite me explaining this, they tried to explain to me that I was wrong and that is just how the sandwich would be. I wish I was heard and not felt like I was crazy for bringing it up out of concern that maybe we should prevent others from eating it.

Maybe the espresso is the thing to get here, but the trip coffee is terrible.

This is a quick coffee takeout chain spread across the city, offering everything under $5, which is rare in New York. The quality of their coffee/espresso was better when they first opened last year, but it seems to have declined since. Fortunately, the food still tastes great. I have tried almost everything on their menu and love the banana bread the most. Some locations offer a seat or two, but the focus is on fast service rather than dine-in. I appreciate them for making barista-made coffee and tasty food options accessible to New Yorkers, and I hope they continue to grow their business and expand the menu.

It was my first time at Matto. I had some questions before placing my order (about customizations, flavor shots, sugar content) and the person there was very polite and helpful (9/29 around 3:40pm). Also, the 'Espresso over ice' that she made (with soy milk, 2 extra shots espresso, and 1 French vanilla flavor shot) came out better than the equivalent (and more expensive) version I normally get from S'bux. 10/10, def recommend!

Not worth going if you aren't ordering off the app. Service is very slow.

So I tried really hard to install the app but it proved very difficult. The staff could have helped with that as I was the only guy in the shop. Anyway the banana and date latte was amazing. Definitely want to try more of their menu. 4.36 for such a fantastic drink was well worth it.

I ordered a latte and they didn't even make the espresso fresh. It came out in 30 seconds and I saw no espresso maker in sight. I think they batch made espresso ahead of time, it was horrible.

Cheaper than other coffee shops in the area, and always reliable! Only one table of seating outside.

They make delicious, current, in step with the times, complex beverages AND manage to stay affordable. Matto is living proof that it is possible to serve New Yorkers these beverages and not gyp them off. So for that Matto gets a resounding 5 stars. The banana date latte is really delicious. It’s all the flavors and textures we love mixed into a beverage and with a lovely subtle hint of coffee. It’s really nice. What I like to do in the summer is order my banana date latte here and then go sit on the terrace across the street @ Plantshed ?? ?
