Meat and Bread is a nice small sandwich/burger restaurant on the Lower East Side. Although it is small, the decor and layout make up for it.

The food ordered today was the fried chicken sandwich, the ribeye sandwich with house sauce, classic cheeseburger, and garlic parm loaded fries. Open kitchen at the bar counter.Dudes working the line and providing counter service are kind and funny.They're hustling making food and running the whole situation, so you're picking up your plates from the counter.I had the cowgirl for brunch. It was a solid choice. These folks take pride in what they do, and it's tasty.

I’m not easily impressed by restaurant food, but I really like this place. My daughter said the fried chicken was excellent and I thought the vegetarian options were flavorful and pleasantly atypical. Super friendly service, Northeast prices yes, but fair — especially for the neighborhood. Nice atmosphere with old Bollywood films silently playing on a projector screen. Also, great music.
