I love how simple yet flavorful and refreshing the soup is. I just loved how clean the taste was. This is one of those meals that I fully enjoyed and it made me feel great long after eating.

On a slightly chilly evening, I ordered rice soup with a clean broth and a thin layer of boiled pork, topped with kkakttugi and spicy red pepper sauce, kimchi dumplings, a plum drink, and a tangerine drink.

No star should be available for this type of unacceptable quality of food especially the chef claims as a specialized item. Gomtang base is from beef not pork, and only pork at this place. This is a worst version of Chashu (Japanese authentic pork) dressed in Korean title that has no common trace. This garbage is only possible in NY, never in Korea nor anywhere else in the globe. Come on Gen Z, you should know better.

Dweji-gomtang (pork bone broth soup) is really smooth and clear. You could taste the richness of the pork while drinking the broth. The pork is slicing into really thin slices and it goes really well with the gochu-ji. The spicyness balances the greasy taste of the pork. The side dish kimchi radish is crisp and balanced the whole dish. The restaurant is a little bit small and doesn’t have a lot of space, but definitely worth a try for its pork broth soup

I visited late in the evening without much expectations, but the simple taste had me nodding my head the moment I took my first spoonful.
When you eat it with the provided seasoning sauce, it becomes spicier and the flavor increases.
The stone pakji was cooked properly and was delicious.
I will visit again next time I visit New York.

Ok.. It's really good gomtang... If you want something simple and light, definitely can be a go to place.. While the mandoo was just ok, it did paired nicely with the gomtang.. So definitely get them together. Obviously with only 2 items on the menu, it's not somewhere you would want to eat at all the time.. But once in a while, it's definitely recommended.
P.S. The speakeasy at the back seems to be really happening.

came twice, once for the tonkatsu and again for their signature gomtang soup. tonkatsu was on the dry side and barely seasoned. tasted “healthy” but would not beat your average train station tonkatsu in Japan. gomtang soup is pretty bland and lacks flavor but I suppose that is the Korean palette. all in all, a bit overhyped and surprised they have a Michelin star. Service and atmosphere are on point. Speakeasy in the back is fine.

Love the simplicity of the gomtang and have come back for it multiple times despite the occasional inconsistency between visits. The seating is not the most comfortable, but service is quick and friendly.
