Great drag shows in Manhattan, however, $16 for a surfside can is egregious even for west village standards!

I came for the Eurovision tea dance and keep coming back outside of that to see John. It’s spacious, with clean bathrooms, and excellent happy hour specials. John is a star - I’ve witnessed him keeping up with truly impossible amounts of customers during the Eurovision grand final with ease. He’s very funny and even if you come in by yourself, you will still enjoy the conversation and company you find here. Stay loco loco!

The place wasnt bad.... the music was very good 👍 but my question is why is 3 NEAT Titos $52??? It barely looked like anything was in the plastic cup. I been bartending for almost 13 years all around Queens and NEVER seen 3 NEAT shots of titos $52 NOT including the tip. Like is that the Real price? Or a made up price once its passed 3am and they feel ppl are intoxicated and dont know the difference?🤔 Who does that?

One of my favorite bars in the city, its always a party at Playhouse. Despite the high cover and 2 drink credit card minimum, I keep coming back for the people here, who are usually great

a straight bar pretending to be a gay bar. a very uncomfortable experience

The music was okay. The people were super cool mostly. The staff was actually some of the most unhelpful staff I have ever met in all of my clubbing days. I was looking for a friend and quite worried as I had not seen her in a while. The bathroom guard wouldn’t let me go in without waiting in the thirty minute line even when I explained I was just looking for a friend and wouldn’t go in any stalls. The entrance staff wouldn’t let me get out to call my friend without the pounding sound of music even though I was quite worried and offered 0 help or support in finding them. Overall a highly disappointing and unsafe experience. I will not be back and I hope they learn to be more human in their interactions.

my drink was spiked by two girls last night 3/30/25

I called the police, went to the hospital, and attempted to file a police report but the NYPD told me there is nothing they will do. The owner is and was unwilling to show his own staff the security footage. I heard from employees it's not the first time girls have roofied men in this establishment. Essentially every person who works there implied the owner suggest they look the other way towards things like this

be careful out there 🤠

In response to the owner:

I called the NYPD and officers were with me in the bar on Sunday around 2pm. The bartender called you saying the NYPD was there and they want to look at security footage. You told the wonderful bartender to refuse them access. 🤮

Have been going to Playhouse for years, but will not any longer. Great staff, morally reprehensible owner. My partner was recently drugged here and as you can see by the owner's response to their recent review they do not care.

Victim blaming is abhorrent and the way that response was worded is strongly leaning that way. You would think that the owner would *want* to ensure that the people responsible for this were at least barred from entering the bar in the future, to prevent this from happening to others, but the owners seem far more concerned with denying & deposing rather than taking accountability for the safety of their bar.

For the record, the NYPD came down to the bar and were REFUSED access to the security camera footage, in addition to their own staff, by the owner.
