a straight bar pretending to be a gay bar. a very uncomfortable experience
The music was okay. The people were super cool mostly. The staff was actually some of the most unhelpful staff I have ever met in all of my clubbing days. I was looking for a friend and quite worried as I had not seen her in a while. The bathroom guard wouldn’t let me go in without waiting in the thirty minute line even when I explained I was just looking for a friend and wouldn’t go in any stalls. The entrance staff wouldn’t let me get out to call my friend without the pounding sound of music even though I was quite worried and offered 0 help or support in finding them. Overall a highly disappointing and unsafe experience. I will not be back and I hope they learn to be more human in their interactions.
my drink was spiked by two girls last night 3/30/25
I called the police, went to the hospital, and attempted to file a police report but the NYPD told me there is nothing they will do. The owner is and was unwilling to show his own staff the security footage. I heard from employees it's not the first time girls have roofied men in this establishment. Essentially every person who works there implied the owner suggest they look the other way towards things like this
be careful out there 🤠
In response to the owner:
I called the NYPD and officers were with me in the bar on Sunday around 2pm. The bartender called you saying the NYPD was there and they want to look at security footage. You told the wonderful bartender to refuse them access. 🤮
Have been going to Playhouse for years, but will not any longer. Great staff, morally reprehensible owner. My partner was recently drugged here and as you can see by the owner's response to their recent review they do not care.
Victim blaming is abhorrent and the way that response was worded is strongly leaning that way. You would think that the owner would *want* to ensure that the people responsible for this were at least barred from entering the bar in the future, to prevent this from happening to others, but the owners seem far more concerned with denying & deposing rather than taking accountability for the safety of their bar.
For the record, the NYPD came down to the bar and were REFUSED access to the security camera footage, in addition to their own staff, by the owner.
Why did the owner not allow the security staff to review the cctv footage after a regular guest was roofied at the bar? That is not a privacy issue, that is fear of liability. The security staff should be permitted to review the footage. The guest who reported this incident collapsed suddenly and was taken to the hospital.
The manager saw some empty nips on a table near us, blamed us for it, and forced our friend to buy a drink citing “grounds to remove her from the premises.” Rude as hell. Whatever white man they have running things is quick to jump to conclusions and disrespectful. I hope we never have to see him again. We’re just a group of lesbians trying to have a nice night and they completely ruined the vibe.

Great music, but the bartenders were clueless and rude—gave me a shot of Red Bull instead of Rumple and had no idea what a London Mule was. Made it my problem instead of apologizing for the miscommunication. Could have been fixed easily.

The bartender was incredibly rude. When I go out back home I’m very used to tipping when I leave and tipping based on how much I got through out the night. I had ordered a shot from the one bartender and then later in the night had gone back for one more. When I went back he made a point of serving other people who had just walked up to the bar and then when finally asking what I wanted asked me “are you going to tip this time”? I had told him I was going to when I left also because I didn’t want to just leave money sitting on a wet counter in a dark night club in NYC he shook his finger at me so I took the shot and just left. The whole thing just put a bad taste in my mouth. There are so many places to go in NYC this doesn't have to be one of them for you.
