Having a whitefish bagel from Russ and Daughters was my number 1 food item to try on my first trip to NYC. It was everything and more.
I’ll be thinking about this bagel sandwich forever

We ordered the pretzel bagel with the olive cream cheese. The bagel was really soft and warm but it was a bit too salty and the olive cream cheese was extremely flavorful and fatty. The latkes were nice but not that crispy and very oily. Overall it was 4.3 /5

Went for a quick bite. Sesame bagel with caviar cream cheese and matzo ball soup. Both were excellent. The soup was piping hot, as it should be. Very friendly service.

Beautiful location. Clean. Great service. Love their smoked salmon, bagels, bialys and also the customized service (recommendations, suggested alternatives due to cut of the salmon, etc). Also notifying me to return the next day as it’s holland herring season.

Very slow service especially at rush hour. There are at least 2 workers chatting and doing nothing while there are 20+ people (I can see the callout numbers) waiting to put their order in!
Bagels are delicious

Unassuming bagel experience. Pay attention to the first bite. The salt, on the perfectly cooked bagel. The creamy, light cream cheese. Perfect. Thank you for the guidance in ordering, especially after asking for egg, meat, which you do not offer. My apologies. Highly recommend and worth the wait. (Take a number!)

This landmark stands as one of New York City's most recognizable destinations, truly deserving of its special status.

Salmon bagel soso

I tried pastrami salmon for the first time.
The bagel is plain, plain cream cheese, capers, tomato, and onion.
It was even more smoky and delicious than smoked salmon.
I would like to try a different salmon next time.

Personally I’ve never been in a deli in New York that was so incredibly disorganized with slow service and awful bagels. We waited over 40 min for a bagel with cream cheese bc the 15 people behind the counter either were standing there looking confused doing nothing or smearing cream cheese on a bagel at a snails pace. I’ve been in actual restaurants where your food needs to be cooked that had faster service. This is a deli, you are not making handmade ravioli for each order, there is absolutely no reason you should be on line at a deli for over 40 minutes, especially when peoples orders are 95% a few layers on a bagel. Do not waste your time, because you will be wasting a LOT of time, and while the fish may be worth it, order ahead, and go somewhere else entirely for bagels. On top of the wait, my order came out on the completely wrong type of bagel despite me saying it twice. Didn’t want to wait so went on our way. Note to Russ and Daughters- teach your employees how a New York deli runs, or hire more competent people.

The service is very good, and despite having a lot of shifts, it works well for them.
.
In the city there are many very good bagel places but the facilities are not that nice, this place is very good.
.
The fish option to choose from and the cream cheese (regular and vegan) are delicious, as is the bread.
.
Highly recommended! We will return!
Remember to order your bagel toasted.

Such an amazing experience and definitely one of the better bagels I have ever tasted in NYC! Had a customized Everything Egg bagel with Scottish Smoked Salmon with Greek Cream Cheese. Salmon was absolutely perfect, as fresh as it can get and blended in nicely with the cream cheese, which had the right amount to ensure it does not overpower the saltiness and flavor of the Salmon.

As an iconic establishment since 1914 with more than a decade in operation, it’s definitely on my highly recommended list if you come to NYC and want to try some amazing bagels. The other fish options are equally perfect and go well with a cup of coffee. It’s a ticket queueing system here so it will take awhile with the massive crowd, especially on weekends, hence most do takeaways with pretty limited seating capacity. Be prepared to wait for about 20-30mins but it’s well worth every minute. Bagels look abit smaller on first view but it’s for sure filling for a meal!

Russ & Daughters at Hudson Yards is another branch of the well-loved bagel spot. It gets super crowded, especially on weekends, so be prepared for a wait if you’re dropping in. I tried their classic salmon bagel, which was really tasty and lived up to the hype. However, some of their other bagels didn’t stand out as much. There’s plenty of interior seating, which is great, but to avoid the wait, I’d still recommend ordering online before you go.

Good food and a nice place.

But, it is extremely busy so it is difficult to find space to eat there, especially if you go alone, and the waiting time can be long.

It stands out mainly for its food, the coffee is average.
