Even though restaurant was packed with early Saturday dinner reservations we got nice seats at the bar and had a reliably nice dinner, with excellent service and dishes exactly as ordered. Our only request is for Sandro's to expand its dessert menu a bit with more options, including chocolate sorbet! Otherwise perfect and less expensive than other East Side Italians.
When we arrived, we were given a table in the back as we had a baby and a stroller. We were quickly brought a delicious mug of home made lentil soup which warmed us up after a brisk walk. We shared a Caesar salad for the table and I think it was the best Caesar I've had so far during my 1 month stay in the city (trying as many italian restaurants as I can). We then each had a half portion of the pasta, which was incredibly good. I had the pasta limone which I could not finish,...
Tucked away on E 86th Street, Sandro's exceeded my expectations. The waiter was attentive - just the right amount. Food was delicious - the carpaccio appetizer was superb! And there were the little touches that make a dining experience special: complimentary grappa and cookies after dinner. I will be back!
