Really good for the price. High quality and tasted amazing
Food was excellent and our chef was very nice. However the waitress was a bit rude and rushed the experience. Asked us to pay the second we stopped eating because of another booking the next hour. The music also ruined the vibe, you’d think for an omakase experience, the environment would be better. But no, songs from
Katy perry and one direction were playing and just ruined the mood.

I know the price is low for omakase, but it is not worth it. The fish does not taste fresh (and I’ve been to relative priced places). The chef rushed the entire experience, I felt overwhelmed by the speed. I came here for my friend’s birthday and specifically asked the waitress for something special, and she forgot… In conclusion, don’t eat here. Instead go to Shinn East, Sushi Lin (west village location). Both are the same price and are actually worth your time and money.

I’ve been there twice and both experience were disappointing. Food is alright, within expectations but their service was bad. Just be prepared that forget about service or it would destroy your mood eating at this restaurant.

Shinn West is a nice budget-friendly omakase option in Hell’s Kitchen — $69 for 13 courses is definitely a great deal in NYC, and the fish quality was decent for the price.
They had a few cocktail options, but beer was limited to Kyoto IPA (original, yuzu, or matcha). The overall experience, though, felt a bit lacking. There was a strong fishy smell when I walked in, the space felt cold and not very welcoming, and the restroom really needed more care.
Out of the omakase places I’ve tried, this one felt a bit rushed — not much interaction or explanation between courses. Personally, I’d rather pay a bit more to have a slower-paced, more engaging dinner in a cleaner and more inviting setting.

Went here on a date and it was absolutely wonderful. Really high quality pieces. The chef was going a little fast though

We came here for their limited BOGO deal as a result of Shinn EAST being under construction. For $75/2 people’s worth of omakase I’d say it was a pretty good deal. The fish quality was definitely above supermarket quality but still not what I would consider “high quality”. Nevertheless, the sushi was still delicious.
While I was satisfied with the bites, I still left the restaurant hungry. I don’t think I could recommend anyone come here if they prioritize value for your money.

Poor experience, both the service, the atmosphere and the food were below expectations. Very disappointing

Grabbed a last minute reservation on the last day of their BOGO free deal. It felt a bit rushed compared to their normal set that we tried a few years ago. It was good for the price though. Sizes of pieces varied a lot. Sometimes the person next to me got almost double the fish portion

Luckily, we managed to find an open reservation for 2 at Shinn West for the next day, so we jumped on the opportunity. They were still doing the BOGO omakase deal so for about $40 a person we were able to have a nice little omakase meal. I think every dish was good, but not exceptional. I think the quality matched the price range, however if it were more expensive it would not be worth the price. Regardless of the food quality, service here was top notch. Hostesses constantly refilling drinks and water while the sushi chefs in front were constantly monitoring the pace of their diners. Due to being only 1 hour, the meal did feel a little short, but everything was great and at the end of the courses we were allowed to chill. Joey, our chef, even hooked it up with extra rice, which was one of my favorite parts of the meal. He said that they throw out any excess rice between seatings so he offered us a whole baseball sized ball of rice at the end of the meal. For the BOGO price I would definitely recommend this place for quality and variety. However, I would be a little more hesitant if it was for the whole price.

They claim to take allergies seriously, however, that’s nowhere near true. My friend has a mild shellfish allergy, which we shared with the server.
They had shrimp touching the rest of the fish, and when we shared the allergy they grabbed it to move it away then proceeded to touch the entire bowl of rice with the same hands that touched the shrimp. Then they brought “uncontaminated fish” that they placed exactly where the shrimp had been sitting, with all the juices still there.
My friend stopped eating after the 2nd nigiri and ultimately asked the server for a bowl of rice since they were pretty hungry.
When the check came we realized they charged us for the bowl of rice that we had to order because they were not careful at all with shellfish.
Otherwise, the quality is ok, nothing crazy.

My local friends were raving about this place, so after practically spawn camping the website, I was finally about to snag a BOGO reservation. They give you a 10 minute grace period for your slot- I ran a couple minutes late but since my party was already present, -they were very patient and even asked for my ETA. They began serving sharply after the 10 minute grace period.
The 13 course omakase did not disappoint at all. My highlights were the the unagi since I love an umami bomb, the botan ebi (tender sweet shrimp), and my favorite- the scallops. I’m just biased as I love scallop- so take that with a grain of salt.
My friend- who’s been to far more omakase spots than I have- is particular about rice. She said it’s worth mentioning that she adores this place’s rice.
I ordered a hot green tea, and it was a perfect accompaniment to the dining experience. It wasn’t a “burn your tongue on the temperature” served drink, but a perfectly tempered and large home-y mug of tea. Thank you to the workers that were diligent in keeping our glasses full.
Overall, I very much so enjoyed my time at Shinn West.
