Food was average especially for the pricing. It was closing day and the waitstaff seemed sweet but so unbothered. We had to get someone's attention to get seated, we were the only ones in the restaurant. And then more than half the menu was unavailable and then food was brought out but we didn't get utensils to eat with. Just overall a poor experience.
It's actually really good that this is closing. The food and ambience is below average. I mean it's a disgrace to India, Indian food and culture. I wasn't expecting it to be this level of bad service and experience. The setup of the place doesn't do justice to India presence here in New York. There was no need of adding Burrata to Butter chicken. It didn't change the taste nor it made any sense. Garlic naan was not garlicky at all. Absolutely horrible!!! Waste of money!!! I AM GLAD ITS CLOSING ON 30 June 2024 so it doesn't misrepresent Indian culture.
We were there early so it was empty and quiet but didn't seem like it was going to get crowded. Location and decor is below average but the food and service was good. Apparently place is closing at month end.
I feel this place is overhyped, had much expectations on ambience and food but it’s all overrated I feel not worth the price

Bland, average food, does not cater to the desi palate. Dessert was the only must have and redeeming item on the menu.

Too loud, too noisy, bad food and not the place for family to go and have a good time.

Great bar atmosphere and very good food! Could I have gotten a similar meal for 30% less at a more casual Indian spot? Yes. But I thought the service and atmosphere and drinks were all Excellent. I'd definitely go back

Forget everything, the food at this place is beyond horrible. I cannot even call it mediocre. For a restaurant with prices as high as they have, beautiful ambiance, good service, but the food tastes terrible. I am even ignoring the fact there was no creativity in the food for the fine dining experience I was aiming for, but even the taste was not good. I am Indian and took a French person to this place with me (usually this should be an easy win as one person is not of Indian origin and so does not know what to compare the taste to, but even my friend did not like the food and said, "I've had better Indian food"). Based on this, you can understand how bad this place was. Sona needs to improve or shut down. I spent $300 for two people and it was a waste of time and money. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
