For a fast early Sunday dinner, I joined a friend at Souvlaki GR Midtown. At 5pm on a Sunday, the establishment only had a few occupied tables, so we received seating immediately. We decided to share the Lamb Shank ($30), Octopadi Stifado ($29), and 2x Chicken Skewers ($5.75 ea). Both the skewers and the Octopadi Stifado came served with pita. The lamb shank, described in the menu as "slow cooked lamb shank with orzo in tomato sauce", arrived just shy of fall-off-the-bone tender, bathed in a savory tomato sauce that soaked into the orzo. I used the pita to full effect in order to soak up every last drop of sauce. The Octopadi Stifado, an octopus stew w/caramelized onions in tomato sauce, had an even more savory tomato sauce, mixed with olive oil that carried the octopus flavor everywhere. Once again, the pita proved useful. The chicken skewers, with decent juice and char, proved irresistible. The pita arrived warm and fluffy. None of that dense brick nonsense that seems ubiquitous. Service proved fast. Dinner from seating to the check took 45 minutes.

Really good moussaka, friendly and prompt service, nice ambiance. Even if it was a busy evening, they found seating for us in just a few minutes.

Ordered the meat platter for takeout from here once. All the meat was seasoned and cooked really well. Food was really good. Will come back at some point to dine in and try the pitza and other dishes.

I have been to this particular restaurant many times, often before a show in the neighborhood. I came here with three other people on a Sunday night at 7pm in mid March. I got a reservation on Open table the day before pretty easily. Plan to have a reservation before dining as I have never seen the place anything but packed. The service at this restaurant can be very slowly and the size of the restaurant is uncomfortably cramped; however, none of that matters because the food is incredible. It is some of the best Greek food I have ever tried in Manhattan. I particularly love the Souvlaki pitas. My husband loves the Bifteki Gemisto. The prices are moderate for the quality of quantity of food they provide.I would definitely recommend this restaurant and cannot wait to go back. I will never say no to dining here.Vegetarian options: Better vegetarian options than I've seen at most Greek restaurants.

It was fun to have a dinner in this loud and busy place. I liked the atmosphere, friendly and welcoming. I had moussaka for my tea, it was good.

Ordered delivery from this restaurant.I don't know what it was but both my wife and I had tummy aches after eating their dinner. She had a Greek salad with koftaAnd I had skirt steak with spinach salad.Let me tell you, both of the salads were drenched in vinegar, the steak was hard and chewy, and I had to take off the next day as I threw up and felt nauseous almost a whole day. Unfortunately I couldn't eat anything the next day as my stomach still felt raw. I don't know what it was if it was the salad dressing or the steak but it was a bad experience unfortunately.

There's no better place on Friday in New York than Souvlaki GR.

Here is a simple restaurant with a nice atmosphere to "cool down" from the frenzy of NY, eat something good with typically Mediterranean flavors and not messed up with a thousand sauces, fresh vegetables at affordable prices. Here is a little place in the Times Square area where you can spend a pleasant evening. Highly recommended for a non-New York evening in Mediterranean style. Adequate menu and friendly staff. I would go back

Service is bad. We were there early and were rushed through every course. The waitress is rude and angry. They don't care that you complain about her either !

I work nearby and get take out from here about once a month. The hummus and pita are always fabulous. I really like the avgolemono, especially in the winter. Fries, gyro, and salad are also winners in my book.
