Been here a few times now! Great food and impressively low prices for the large portions, nice staff, but consistently incredibly slow and inattentive service. We had to ask repeatedly for our two simple drink orders, for the check, etc. So I recommend factoring in an extra 30 mins at least that you’ll spend here, unless you’re willing to be extra pushy.

We found this eatery by chance. The place seemed cozy from outside and when we entered we didn't regret it. The Shepherd Pie was very tasty and combined perfectly with a Guinness. The atmosphere and the staff are very friendly.

Good food. Service is slow but only 2 servers were on for a packed place. Polite staff. Get the smoked salmon. Cobb salad. The st. James Turkey sandwich was very satisfying.

Portions were too big and felt very wasteful, little too expensive but service was good and atmosphere was great.

I love St. James Gate! The perfect neighborhood bar. I go every time I’m in NY. Great drinks, food, and service. Super nice owner Paul goes around and greets people. It’s everything a bar should be!

Vegetarian options: They have a delicious veggie burger!

I live in Queens but whenever I’m in the UWS I make a point to come here. Probably the best Guinness in Manhattan, great craic, great bartenders, no complaints. A lovely Irish bar refreshingly free of pretense.

Great Service! Great Food! Irish Coffee was one of the best I’ve ever had as well as the mashed potatoes! I must come back for the fish and chips.
Such a great classic Irish pub!

I had lunch in this pub with my children attracted by the positive reviews. Express food quite good but the steak, asked for medium rare, was dry and tough. The environment is decadent and poorly maintained, not very clean.

After being seated, it took a minute for them to take our order. The drink I got (gin & ginger) was great. I ordered the sliders and it came with 3. I liked being able to build my own slider my only critic is that the meat had shrunk smaller than the bun...and they gave me 2 pickles for 3 sliders....
I asked the waiter for hot sauce and he handed me every kind of mustard b4 an actual hot sauce.
My friend got the shepherds pie, which was yummy but too hot for us to enjoy there, we had to take it to go.
The music was great though.

The bartender was a total d-bag and seems to have anger/attitude issues.

Came in on Monday afternoon to watch the Euros. I had the audacity to ask him to switch one of the TVs on to the game instead of Tennis which no one was watching. This resulted in an argument and back and forth. It took him literally two seconds to press a button on a remote.

Then after waiting for 15 minutes to get a menu, I had the audacity to ask for a cup of water.... Gasp!

Asking for water got the bartender to curse under his breath and clearly be upset. That's when I had enough.

I just got up and left without ordering anything in the middle of the game. I don't want to stay at a place where you feel like a burden for being there and giving them my money. Tons of other places to watch the game with friendly staff. Bye.
