This place is what you make of it. They have everything you could possibly want. They can make to order (if you slow down and communicate clearly) - better for less busy hours. You can get their pre-made food or select their established sandwiches - better for busier hours. Choose your own adventure and enjoy a day off from cooking!
They have a few seats in back - great for rainy days or to stop and slow down or have a home for a bit between classes/activities.
Family, student, all people friendly.
PS Portion sizes are generous and the soup is homey feeling!

Cheapest place around the University area when it comes to great quality service and food. They give so much meat in their food and both chefs and cashiers are super nice!

This is my third time eating from subconscious. Although my coworkers tell me not to due to their bad experience like raw chicken given to two of coworkers twice. I still decided to give them a try today for lunch. This has got to be one of the worst places to eat around Barnard/Columbia college.
I ordered the Pastrami and Salami Hot Sandwich. I work less than 5 min from this place. I order my Sandwich went to pick it up, as pervious review stated the customer service is on point but the Pastrami and Salami Hot Sandwich was a mess. The bread was so soggy, It felt like they dipped it into water and the meat you could not even taste it because of endless amounts of hot sauce the drown the sandwich in. I wish I looked at the reviews on Google and take into consideration my coworkers experience. NEVER AGAIN! How can an establishment keep running with so many missed opportunities to make things better. It's like the owner do not care.
The people that work there are kind. However, sandwiches are hit or miss for me. I ordered a pastrami salami sandwich with soup and I had never seen such a soggy sandwich in my life! It was messy and I truly believe they dunk their bread in water because it does not hold up well at all. I ordered minestrone soup which was just a cloudy broth like chowder with a few pieces of frozen peas, carrots and corn with celery. It tasted fine but I expected better. The sandwiches have generous meat fillings, but the toppings like lettuce and tomatoes are lacking. This was the case with their Italian sandwich, the tomatoes tasted old and the bread was unusually soggy. Maybe I am ordering the wrong food here, I don’t know, but it saddens me that a place with good front workers cuts corners like this because they know they’re one of the few establishments on the block offering lunch specials.
This is the last time I buy from here, service is good but I expect better quality food, at least dry/toasted bread honestly.

I used an app to grab food from here at a discount not knowing what the dish would be. Omg. Freaking amazing. I will be returning to select from thier full menu. As a Spanish person this was seasoned to perfection. No bland food here. I had the chicken stew and the pernil plate. With salad

Great atmosphere and prices. The sandwiches were super cheap and the taste was amazing. I got the chicken parmesan sandwich and it did not disappoint. It even came with a free cup of soup which really brought the meal together. I would definitely eat here again.
I ordered here for the first time, a turkey avocado sub. The turkey didn't taste like turkey at all it made me nausea I had to pick it out.. I decided to look through the reviews afterwards to see if anyone else had the same problem. Not to my surprise. Someone mentioned the pastrami didn't taste like pastrami. Wondering if this spot is supposed to be vegan? Or are they just selling us bad meat

Really wanted to like the sandwich, as the staff is quite efficient and helpful. I got pastrami, egg and cheese on a roll. The egg and cheese is fine but the pastrami is not pastrami. It has a weird texture, not like real meat at all let alone NY pastrami. After the first two bites, I ended up picking it all off. Stick with an egg and cheese and you’ll be fine.
