Been to SOG a few times. It was good. But not next level. Maybe I'm just too used to it but there were a couple of sashimi and sushi pieces that were kinda nothing special. And the tap water tasted like it was cooled with stale ice. Seems like they're mailing it in a bit. They need Carmy-level passion.
Sushi of Gari just delivers. I am glad that we have one in the UES neighborhood. I like the fact that the sushi isn't plain traditional, but also doesn't really go drastically experimental. The care that is put on each piece of the omakase progression is excellent and well thought out. Naturally Omakase in NY is not a cheap endeavor, but it is worth every dime for a special occasion. Also thanks for the surprise gesture for my wife's birthday!!
A very nice place to go for conversation and nice meal. I suggest the sushi sashimi on rice piece options. The handrolls are all rice no fish. I got the scallop handroll and there was no scallop in it. The price isn't great. The fried options were too breaded.
