The food at the Mermaid Inn is always fresh - for me, that matters the most with seafood. I love their lobster roll, watermelon salad and island creek oysters. Pro tip: as for an order of the rolls! I love that it’s not impossible to get a reservation, but be prepared to squeeze into small tables.

Not so bad but not so professional in the service first diner while arriving in NY after a viit to galeries in Chelsea and the market. No probem to get a table even arlier our tming schedule. The orders were seemed to be understood...A lack of precisions on the wine(I don't know I am knew...tell another since....). Then my daughter oredrr 2 appetizers but one as mean . And they give us all in the same time...and so the "mean" was cold at time to eat and needed to be rewarmed...25 mn to get all our dishes together then... a little bit too salty for the calamari salad... I order a sampler of theere oysters and they have been servd without explnation(this one is, the 2nd...)and only one otption of dessert. So good meal for the dishes, more tahn average in the service; good atmosphere

Spirited Seafood spot with solid oysters, lobster rolls, and grilled salmon all within a good vibing building. The waiters can be slightly aggressive with ordering quick and be ready to pay a healthy bill. $30 a dish. 4/5 stars as a dinner spot.

Pre theatre. Got the sea bass off the prix fixe: nice piece of fish, well (lightly) steamed but covered in an inexplicably sweet and sour cloying sauce. Added nothing, as did the unseasoned rock shrimps scattered about. 2 house made sorbets for dessert--passion fruit, mild flavor, some ice; mango - zero flavor. They told us this chef has been there a long time. This kitchen needs a kick in the pants.

We happened in this place when our selected deli was closed. Wow - lucky me!! We were lucky to get a spot to sit as it filled up quickly. The oysters were so fresh that we actually ate 30 of them! Drinks were a good price and a good pick. Definitely will go back again on our next trip to NYC. Recommend.

Would definitely return! Everything I ate was good. The happy hour specials are well worth it. Kudos to the servers and kitchen staff keeping everyones tables full of food during the happy hour rush! 10/10 recommend.

The Mermaid Inn is closed (not only at this location, but apparently all NYC locations). I was surprised and disappointed that Open Table would offer and confirm a reservation at a restaurant that is not in operation. It now will be difficult for me to trust Open Table for a reservation at a restaurant that I do not know is actually open by recent personal experience.

We ate at the Chelsea location. We arrived on time for our 3 person dinner reservation. The party ahead of us (also with 3 people) told the maitre d' they didn't have a reservation but could they be accommodated? After a pause, they were seated in the main dining room. When we told the maitre d' we were there and had a reservation, he looked a bit taken aback. Obviously, he had just given away our table. We were then seated at a drafty table in the bar. The service was terrible. We didn't see the waitress during the entire length of the meal. She didn't even ask if we wanted coffee or dessert. We had to wave at her to ask for coffee. This place is not worth the trip. Extremely disappointing.

Finally there is a reliably great restaurant we can go to before or after Broadway shows! The Mermaid Inn was always a favourite in UWS and Chelsea spots and this one is even better with an expanded menu giving lots of choices even for the non seafood customer. Personally recommend the short ribs, mushroom risotto and the kale salad is some of the best I’ve had in NYC. When you step into the space you immediately relax and forget about the chaos in surrounding Times Square unlike most other places in the area, it feels like a cozy country dining experience !

Been there for dinner and the food is fresh and quality is beyond great. Always makes me satisfied whenever I dined there. I got the Lobster Roll and Fish tacos which taste really great and has good texture. It taste really wonderful. Drinks were so perfect and really fantastic. I enjoyed having it. Really had great time there and the place is so wonderful.

I came here with a friend on a weeknight for an early dinner. They seated us promptly without a reservation. We ordered the oysters, which were fresh and delicious, and the shrimp and avocado and the calamari salad. Everything was light, fresh and well-seasoned. Definitely recommend the oyster selection, and come during happy hour if you can!

We had 730 reservations on Friday night and were seated immediately. The entire restaurant and bar were packed. This is a lively and loud place, especially so close to happy hour. By 830, the volume lowered to tolerable even tho restaurant still full. The food was excellent as was the service - our waiter was a doll. The simple grilled fish was great - we had cod. The mac’n cheese was delicious. No dessert menu but everyone was served a complimentary little dish of chocolate pudding with a dollop of cream. This is a fun place but be prepared to talk loudly and/or lip read.

So happy the original has reopened. We have been going to Mermaid at Mcdougal and love it. Now we can go to 2nd Ave. The oysters are always fresh and delicious as are the clams. Always have at least 1dozen of each. Guy the manager, handsome bubbly and very attentive. Camilo the shucker, excellent!!! Ozzie our server was also attentive. Will be back soon

So happy this location reopened. Always delicious fresh seafood. And they also have a fabulous happy hour. Also one of my favorite drinks is here -- the hot & dirty. You can't go wrong at The Mermaid Inn if you like seafood ❤️
