The salad was uneatable, the arancini was cold in the middle and instead of a spreading cheese it was just a block of cheese in the middle. When we said something they just said that's how it is and took it. That's all. Very disappointing, they added service as the pleased without asking. There are definitely better Italian restaurants around there. Don't fall with this one.

I'm no fan of the standard Italian restaurant or of pasta. Each dish surprised with rich, delicious flavor, freshness, and texture.

I didn't love this. And for the most part I can blame it on one main thing: cheese.
I had two different items that were topped with cheese, and in both cases the dishes got better when we removed the cheese. It's texture was just too... Firm and chewy. It just doesn't work for lasagna and we just didn't enjoy it. In all fairness we ordered to go, but it's a 5 minute walk home, as we live down the block, and the food was still piping hot so the cheese should still have been melted.
To their credit they did accommodate a request for a non-menu item, which was great service, so this isn't about the restaurant themselves - they seem very nice and it seems to have a good atmosphere. The lasagna was tasty (after removing the cheese) but more dry then I'd prefer... Very little meat sauce so we really had to rely on the sauce that was poured into the container to bring in the moisture. Overall the studies flavors were good. And their meatball is good though. Marinara sauce is tasty. So this isn't all doom and gloom. There are good things to be had here. But because so many Italian dishes really on cheese, I'm hesitant to try any of those. But I'd give another cheese-free dish a try.

All the trappings of a nice Italian restaurant, but serves up minuscule portions of mediocre food, starting with stale supermarket Italian bread and progressing to entries accompanied by tiny side dishes - I’m talking one and a half roasted baby potatoes and two small pieces of broccolini. You’ll leave hungry.
I'd never been to this restaurant but I will definitely be returning. The food was great and the service was exceptional. I'm so glad I discovered it.
first and foremost the eggplant parm was amazing Weirdly quiet and empty and the waiters seemed to be rushing us out despite the lack of patrons in the restaurant weirdest thing was when a giant fly dove into my wine and I asked the waiter for a new glass and he gave me the smallest glass of wine to try to match how much was in it at the time and I just thought that was bizarre
Nice place with very good food. Surprisingly empty for a Saturday night. Swordfish was great. Orchiette pasta with sausage and broccoli was also very good. Decently priced wine list. Very nice atmosphere. Will go again.

The food and service keep getting better and better! We have been coming to Il Gusto for many years and have never been disappointed. A truly wonderful dining experience.
They keep getting better! Il Gusto has been a neighborhood favorite for a while, but our meal there yesterday was the best ever. The servers were all attentive and friendly. And the food really, really good - we had the eggplant and baked clam appetizers - both were delicious! And for main dishes, the salmon was cooked perfectly and a large portion, the tortellini just right, and the chicken/eggplant/porcini special an unexpected treat (and priced in line with the menu). Prices are very reasonable given the quality of the food (and alternatives in the neighborhood). And the dining room and patio are both great options, intimate spaces with tables nicely spaced. We highly recommend!

@ilgustowinebar is an authentic italian restaurant located on the upper west side!
ft:
-pirata livornese: packed with so many delicious seafoods such as clam, mussel, shrimp, salmon, calamari on top of angel hair pasta. this was beyond delicious. the portion size was huge and everything was perfect!
-calamari: such a classic dish, and they make it so well. the outside is crispy and the inside is tender!
-red wine

Unfortunately, our visit to Trattoria Il Gusto was a complete disappointment due to the terrible service we received from our waiter, Miguel. From the start, his attitude was rude and unprofessional.
We ordered two Coca-Colas, and both were flat. When we kindly asked for replacements, the new ones also had no carbonation at all. When we pointed this out again, the waiter became aggressive and outright refused to change them, claiming they only used cans and that two had already been opened.
When I asked him to bring me an unopened can so I could open it at the table myself, his response was abusive and confrontational: instead of helping, he demanded that my husband go to the bar to check the cans and made it clear that he was not going to replace them.
To make things worse, when I requested to speak with a manager, the waiter refused. It is unacceptable for a restaurant to allow its staff to treat customers this way. As if that wasn’t bad enough, they automatically added gratuity to the bill, despite providing horrible service that did not deserve it.
I do not recommend this place at all. If you value good customer service, avoid this restaurant.

It is a favorite restaurant. Especially the Bronzino is outstanding and so is the service just an overall when the full experience have never had a problem and have always had a delicious meal. Highly recommended believe it is one of the best restaurants in New York City.
Service at the bar yesterday during happy hour could have been better. Bartender seemed cold and bothered.
Lovely place to find great food in quiet. Also, a wonderful neighborhood gem for all occasions.
