This place has decent omakase for a decent price ($120/pp). Omakase for 2, a bottle of sake, and 2 Sapporo beers came out to $360, including tax and tip. The sushi chef is very nice and explains what each piece is as it’s served. The service is great overall. I wasn’t a particular fan of the fish liver which were unfortunately 2 of the 16 pieces served.

Top tier spot at a fair price. Can’t go wrong here. Personal fav was the Hokkaido uni.

Chef Ken is amazing. Unique Omakase has a very run down look on the outside, and a very generic sounding name, but the food inside is great. Chef Ken prepared each part of the omakase with different flavors and they used a great variety of fish. Some omakase places give you a lot of the standard fish (salmon, yellowtail, tuna) with little variety but we had fish like dorade royale and kuromutsu here in addition to the standards. Most importantly, you felt the difference in taste of the different fish. The setting is intimate, about 12 seats I think, with each chef responsible for 6 people each. I never felt rushed like at some omakase places and the chef spoke both English and Chinese to explain each piece. I also read another yelp review commenting that the chef is chinese. It is funny when people mention the ethnicity or sex of the chef when what matters is how the food tastes and Chef Ken made the food taste great. Even when you go to Michelin star omakase restaurants, the main chef whose Japanese name may be on the restaurant may not even be there so guess who is preparing your sushi? It's clear that Chef Ken had the training and practice to do justice to the fish.Is this going to be the best omakase you've ever had? Of course not. But unique omakase 100% punches above its weight and is worth the money you spend there (Currently $96 for 16 courses - 3 appetizers, 11 nigiri, 1 handroll and 1 dessert). Will definitely be coming again.

I've been to a ton of omakase spots in NYC and this one is definitely up there with the best. It's 16 courses for $96 which is one of the best deals I've seen, but what really makes it special is how fresh & creative each course is. The staff is extremely nice and answered all of our questions about where the fish came from and why it's paired with certain things. Also the fact that it's BYOB is a major win for New Yorkers.

Came here with high expectations and they were exceeded. The fish was all incredibly fresh and the flavors they were prepared with were so delicious. Nothing was overpowering and the sushi chefs and staff were so kind and informative. Will definitely come back when we get the chance and highly recommend. The portions were also so good for the price! If you love Japanese food and are looking to explore more of that, this is the best place.

We chose to do the Unique Omakase and has an amazing time! The food was incredible and extremely fresh. I loved every single bite and thought the use of creative ingredients did not ruin the taste of the fish. They change their menu seasonally so I can't wait to come back and try their new menu. Delicious.

I think it was the Great Kumamoto oyster, but the mochi was extremely tough. The texture of the mochi I had was so hard that it almost caused damage to my dental crown when I tried to bite into it. Most of the pcs I tries was up to its standard. The pcs with the bread was a bit dried. Customer service was average. Chef was nice BUT still...THAT MOCHI. OMG, that skin, its was HARD.---Respond to Owner after Reply:When I visited here in September 2022, you still served mochi. I'm not sure if you put the mochi in the super frozen or something, but it was solid hard and we were asked to leave because another session customer was behind us, so I popped it in my mouth, it almost stuck on my tongue because it was so cold, I paid, and left to make room for the next customer.

12/10 recommend for a wonderful and delicious dinner in a low key environment. Big hole-in-the-wall vibes and the food is amazinggggg. The inside is very nice with only bar seating (10-16 max) which is great because you get to see the chefs put together the beautiful creations for you to eat. Each piece is unique with such a wide range of flavors. The staff is super friendly, attentive and easy to get to know. They remember people and take care of return customers. $85 for 15 (!) courses is totally reasonable, especially given the experience. Hope y'all will go show them some love and support!

"Unique" is a bit of a misnomer. More like "less commonplace than all the other boring Edomae omakase spots". See also: Sushi chef is Chinese. Is that unique?Anyway, this is one of the more affordable options in the city for 15 courses ngiri and small apps. $85 will nab you some fun dishes like shrimp in shell with uni and seasoned seaweed. But the main reason to come here? Your birthday. We did a group birthday dinner here (3 out of 4 of us had May birthdays) and were surprised with not one but two generous dishes of birthday sashimi and rice--for free! And those were some pretty generous cuts of salmon, tuna and yellowtail. Me like free.

For starters, this is ok sushi but for those who say this is super worthy for 15 quality sushi, I don't think so. I think its overpriced for low quality sushi.i took my wife there for a try but we were both disappointed. Some of the fish tasted ok for most of them tasted flat just as it was being defrosted and the rice itself was hard and tastless fall apart easily when i try to pick it up. I don't think we will ever go back again, there are so many establishments in NYC that are way better with the same price.

Really disappointing. The sushi itself was fine (although just “fine”). The experience overall was poor. Ambience, service, energy were lackluster. You’re better off elsewhere. ?
