Virgil's Real BBQ - Upper West Side

This is a Take-Out ONLY. There is NO sit down restaurant or tables of any kind for Virgil's here. You can only order food to take-out or delivery. This is a small walk-in counter attached to Carmine's Italian restaurant.

Many of the pictures are misleading, they must be either old or from the Times Square location. Virgil's needs to update this listing and the pictures to reflect what this location is.

I traveled about 45 minutes on the subway based on the google listing and high reviews to eat Virgil's and avoid Times Square crowds. Sadly, I could not eat here since this is Take-Out only with no seating and had to find another restaurant nearby.

Yesterday my family and I decided to get Virgil’s BBQ. This has been one of our favorite BBQ spots for many years and we were truly excited. Since last time we had it was in 2020. I use to tell everyone this was amongst the best in NYC. Unfortunately after yesterday that will no longer be the case. The chicken wings had absolutely no flavor. The mash potatoes didn’t taste like anything either. The mac and cheese which was our favorite the recipe must have changed it tasted like something out of a box. The ribs also had no flavor. Needless to say we weee all very sad and won’t be returning. Time to find a new BBQ stop.

Service was great. Food was cold, and not great. Never had onions in mashed potatoes. Tons of onions in other side dishes as well. Pulled pork was cold but tasted pretty good with bbq. Overpriced what you get.

First time and highly recommended, great food and atmosphere, and our server was very nice. Will definitely go back

We got there early and margaritas were in special for Happy Hour — fabulous. The combo platters, the brisket and shrimp were fabulous— have enough leftovers for another meal!

The staff was great and accommodating. It was way too hot and loud in the restaurant. Also, I was really disappointed that the restaurant didn't use separate grease for seafood and non-seafood items considering people's allergic reactions. Thus, I was let able to get what I went for which was the fried chicken.

Being from the south, I tend to get disappointed by the BBQ in NYC.

However, this place is great. I loved the brisket and the ribs.

i never write reviews much but please go check this place out!! my boyfriend and i came here for our one year anniversary and the woman chillyann at the front was very kind and gave us the only corner booth. her energy was absolutely off the charts and welcoming. the place was clean and the vibe was on point. our service, justin, did a wonderful job with us! very patient, knowledgeable of the food, and adaptable. overall amazing service. now to the food, i really did not expect it to taste so good! for the price compared to the quality of the food, there’s no way it’s so affordable. i ordered the ribeye steak and it was cooked wonderfully, the taste was great and it just melted ! i recommend getting chimichuri on the side, it was deliciousss. the mac and cheese tasted like home, it was seasoned and the crust of the mac and cheese was perfect. the brussel
sprouts were good as well! my boyfriend got the same sides and honey glazed salmon. 11/10 salmon omg, the sauce was flavorful and drenched but it didn’t make it soggy while the skin was crispy and hot. we also got the frozen peach lemonade , the peach was so subtle and not overpowering. honestly it was another 10/10. overall please give this a try and i hope you meet the two wonderful people :)
