Check my profile, I never leave anything less than 5 stars, but on this one I had to. Two in our group had allergies. We went through them over 3-4 times with the waiter. We thought we were square, but the waiter kept mixing them up and seemed nervous. It wasn’t until the chef came out when we found out that some of the orders certainly weren’t allergy compliant. Without that intervention, my girlfriend would have been in the ER. It affected the experience.
When im paying around 200 for 2, this needs to be correct. Watch out!

My husband and I had an exceptional dinner at Wallse. We truly enjoyed every dish, the elegant atmosphere ( without being pretentious),intimate lighting and superb service. Lamb was delicious! Octopus was amazing and bread was perfection. We were so pleased with a wonderful Austrian wine. We will be returning for sure, for another lovely experience.

Mixed experience. We had cocktails and a prefix 3 course dinner. As soon as the cocktails were delivered we were asked to order, several times. Then reminded, in no uncertain terms, by the maitre d that we had a strict two hour window to eat a get out, as the table was reserved. We were a little stunned and contemplated leaving. But the waiter was nice and we did not want to escalate the scene. We ordered and were out before our deadline. The trout was excellent, apple strudel was good, the rest of the meal was ehhh!
For $180 we expected much better. And nobody was waiting for tables when we left. So we're lied to.

The Restaurant Week Menu is very disappointing. The portion of food is small, and we didn’t feel full after the dinner. I had the chocolate cake as the dessert, which is the worst chocolate cake I have ever had in my life. It was very dry. Didn’t get much service either.

My 2nd time dining here, as an Austrian citizen this is as close as you can get to Austrian cuisine in the states. Delicious food and attentive service.

Recommended dishes: Wiener Schnitzel Potato and Cucumber Salad Lingonberries, Sachertorte, Apple Strudel with Cream
As a NYC local, this restaurant has remained my #1 for the past few years. Menu options will pique curiosity for little-known Austrian cuisine fundamentals, and then pleasantly blow your expectations out of the ball park. This is my #1 NYC restaurant and my #2 in the world.

This was one of the most disappointing dining experiences in the city in a while.
All of the food was just fine or plain. The restaurant isn't as cute as walking by or photos suggest and the service is also just fine.
Everything was severely lacking for the price point. $300+ meal for 2 people without any drinks. This place was unfortunately a miss.

The dishes taste like they were made just for you. The dishes were expertly handled. The team at this place is large and uniformly friendly. Limited capacity doesn't diminish its popularity. Wallsé delivers exceptional quality.

Classy without being pretentious. We hadn’t been here for some time and were happy that it’s just as great as our last visit. We started with some tasty cocktails (the tomate and the gurke), the heirloom tomato and peach salad, and chicken liver mousse. We both had the Weiner schnitzel for mains and finished with apple strudel and elderberry panna cotta. If I wanted to be really picky the panna cotta could have been a little more jiggly but I truly couldn’t fault anything with that delicious meal! Service was excellent and our server suggested a terrific wine to go with our mains. Overall wunderbar!

Their meals showcase exceptional quality! Each staff person approached with genuine cheer. I encountered unfamiliar elements in this quality meal. Rush to experience this restaurant! This place shows remarkable consistency.

Truly a special place. The chef and the staff put pride into their work. I have been coming to Wallse for the past 7-8 years, and the quality has been consistent if not better every time I am back. Schnitzel is a must-try item, and you will never regret. I am so glad that I found this place in my life in NYC.

I have been a loyal Wallse diner for over a decade and am really sad to see their service levels and standards slipping.
Food: I am a pretty small guy (5’9” and 140 pounds) with a smallish appetite but I was still starving at the end of our three course Restaurant Week meal. My neighbor got the same arctic char entree and his piece was much larger, so perhaps I just got unlucky, but their portion consistency needs work. What little food we got was okay but unremarkable, definitely nowhere close to the Michelin star they used to have.
Service: We waited about 45 minutes for dessert and no one checked on us until I eventually managed to flag someone down to ask about it. They offered some apricot schnapps as a goodwill gesture, but guess what, I don’t drink and didn’t order any wine with dinner so why would you think I would want that? The nice couple next to us saw this all go down and volunteered that they also thought our waiter tonight (Cory?) was terrible.
Atmosphere: The room is still nice and their artwork and sunflowers in the window are lovely. Tables are a little close but it’s not too noisy and possible to have a nice conversation. However, it’s hard to appreciate the ambiance when you are hungry and the service is so subpar.
Overall: Dinner took close to 2 hours and my meal of a tiny tomato salad, tiny piece of fish, and apple strudel with no drinks cost me $77. I guess I should not be surprised why it was so easy to get a reservation at prime time on Saturday night. I honestly couldn’t wait to get out of there and probably won’t be back.

Ambiance (5/5): The restaurant is very small with minimal/simplistic decor. There’s a full bar and several small tables nearby. Might be a little tight on seating but it wasn’t busy on the particular early weeknight.
Service (5/5): The service is spectacular with constant check-ins throughout our whole dining experience. No complaints.
We came for their $60 NYC Restaurant Week 2025 menu. Overall expect small portions but a really great presentation and a blast of different flavors and texture.
Watermelon martini – delish! It was made using real watermelon, which we saw being prepared at the bar.
Spicy summer corn soup - I really liked the presentation and it was tons of unexpected flavor, tiny bit of spice.
Grilled Bavette Steak – The meat was pretty tender although I did not think it had too much taste. The sides of the root and red cabbage were flavored well and complimented the steak. A little underwhelmed by this dish.
Salzburger Nockerl – very unique, light, and not overly sweet
Perhaps for a place which used to be a Michelin star, I was kinda expecting more. It was operating and felt like a fine dining experience!
