WAU on Amsterdam Avenue delivers a delightful blend of Thai and Southeast Asian flavors in a chic setting. The Crying Tiger Beef stands out with its tender, smoky richness, while the Soft Shell Chili Crab impresses with its crispy texture and sweet-spicy kick. The Pad Kra Pow Basil is comforting, if a bit understated. For dessert, the Mango Sticky Rice Pudding is a refreshing classic, and the Lychee Rose Crème Brûlée offers a unique, fragrant twist. With attentive service and a vibrant ambiance, WAU is a must-visit for a flavorful and satisfying meal.

My wife and I have been to Wao twice in 2024 and each time we made sure to try new dishes; everything from here is excellent. Our first visit was during Restaurant Week of Spring 2024 and the second visit was in August 2024 for selections from the full menu. Each time the food was impeccable and the service was fantastic. We will be back again soon.

I went for restaurant week and both the service and food were really great. Restaurant week was 3 courses plus a cocktail. For the price I wish they would’ve offer more options from the menu or put more of the most ordered items on the menu even if it was in a smaller portion (e.g., roti canal, rendang beef, red curry). However the portions were nice and I ended up having leftovers. Overall would come back again just to try some of their curry dishes.
Side note for the owners. Please fix your tip calculation to not include taxes. Thank you ?.

The best south East Asian food I have had in NY. We lived and travelled all around Indonesia and Malaysia and this food is the real deal. The Nasi Goreng, Beef Rendang and satay were all excellent - a decent kick to the senses without being hot for the sake of it. Highly recommend. Not cheap but hey this is NYC.

Staff were attentive and ambience was nice. The food was not bad...some dishes better than others. Not all of them were authentic (we are Malaysian so we know our food well) and some dishes were quite pricey.

Had brunch here last weekend. Small cozy restaurant on the upper west side. The food was absolutely smashing! Amazing overall!

I think the food was decent- it was fairly average in quality and flavor. Most of the dishes were fairly muted considering the fare- there wasn’t a particular item we ordered that stood out as interesting, delicious, or worth coming back for. The service was really great but all around Wau was so so.

Hidden gem in the UWS. It's hard to find good laksa in the US but this place knocked it out of the park! The roti and the salt and pepper young coconut were also **chefs kiss**

Loved the pineapple fish curry! Big enough for two to share. Everything here was delicious, we also got the garb lai and wonton soup as starters and the butter garlic fried rice. Great southeast Asian cuisine in the area. Very attentive staff and reasonably priced.

After watching the CBS Sunday Morning interview of WAU, I decided to make a reservation at the restaurant. The interview made the food look incredibly delicious, and I was particularly impressed to learn that the restaurant had been awarded a Michelin star. I had high expectations, but unfortunately, the experience didn't meet them. The food seemed to be more about looking good for Instagram rather than tasting great. I ordered the well-seasoned calamari, but it was too rubbery to chew, and I ended up swallowing most of it in large whole pieces. The shrimp pad thai was greasy and had an unpleasant taste that I couldn't bring myself to eat. The wait staff noticed I wasn't enjoying the food and offered me a free dessert, which I politely declined. I was utterly baffled by the Michelin star rating, as the food was a terrible disappointment.

Was so surprised to see pair of. Chopsticks in the air without anyone holding it. Could see Why it's their signature dish. It provided entertainment and fulfillment for us. Highly recommended. Several other dishes that looked appealing as well.

Our waiter was very friendly but we had to wait a disproportionately long time to be acknowledged and served . Food did come out quickly once we ordered it . Honestly was not overly impressed by quality of food. It was ok ,but nothing was really extraordinary. For the price , there are definitely much better options in the area
