Easter Sunday NYC 2024, many retail stores were closed for the 1st time. The hat parade by St. Pat's on 5th was disrupted by protesters, but the weather was sunny, windy and relatively mild. Central Park was packed and we decided on sushi for dinner in the East Village. We wanted to go to Hasaki, but they were closed for Easter. This restaurant Yakiniku West (not sure why "West", this was the East Village ?) was next door. There was no line at 7:30pm, dinner primetime. Let's try it. We were seated immediately on the 2nd floor (heads-up, this is Siberia = poor service here as the kitchen is downstairs on 1, highly doubt the servers want the stairmaster regimen for each order). The AYCE menu is extensive, but the time delay to receive items was extensive. Our order needed to be repeated 4 to 5 times. Everything ordered was delivered. Food quality for an AYCE was a 6 of 10. Mostly precooked. Our server was very nice, just not able to complete the 2nd floor trek while memorizing multiple items.Maybe try again next time, but on the first floor.About $180 for a filling meal, including the 20% gratuity, pretty fair.

Yakiniku west serves quality Japanese barbecue… if you’re willing to wait an unreasonable amount of time. My group and I decided to get the all you can eat option and we received our orders reasonably quick for the first 15 minutes but then we stop receiving anything for the next 45 minutes. We couldn’t even put any orders in. There were items that we never received and items we only received after an hour and a half. Yet we were timed normally. I left still hungry and unsatisfied. The AYCE option is a scam. Do not come here for AYCE. Honestly with how slowly things came out you would be wasting time going here.
The service was the absolute worst. It was so so bad for an all you can eat place. There's a 2 hour limit on AYCE but then each order takes like 20 minutes and so it's actually not AYCE! I went with a friend (two people) and left hungry. The waiters did not want to serve our table at all while were literally taking shots with a table nearby that were all Japanese, they consistently ignored us even when we patiently waited, the service was no where to be found. It was an absolute pain to get orders in. And in the end, they had the audacity to come and ask why we didn't leave an 18% tip! They forced us to leave an 18% tip when the servce was so bad it's awful –– all with an attitude. Do not bother coming here.

Poor customer service. I went there and they were a little busy but served never brought one of the items we ordered until we asked because we never received it. Tofu soup was see through and watered down no flavor. Drinks are super small. We waited 20 minutes in between server checking back in. There were sauces that are to be served with the liver sashimi they didn’t bring it we had to ask for and wait for it. To top it off I left something behind called and they just had no urgency to help or look. Never going back. It was also so hot I was sweating.

I've never been to an AYCE Japanese spot before, so I was quite pleased at the diverse selection of foods to choose from. My group's favs that we ordered multiple times: the garlic shrimp (beware: the spicy garlic shrimp is SPICY and this is coming from someone who loves spice), miso short rib, fried lotus root, miso soup, and black sesame ice cream. Great for groups.

Goood meeeeat! I like the sweet sauce for barbecue the salty sauce too salty. The ice cream are amazing?
Like I have read on other reviews, the service is pretty slow here. They seem short staffed as the restaurant was fully booked with only 2 waiters/waitresses. We all got the cheapest all you can eat. If you cook your beef right, they can be quite tasty. The secret is to not overcook them. You still wanna see a little bit of redness to the meat. They also don’t write anything down so you may not get items you ordered. I say, come with a plan. Order the welcome platter A, get 1-2 veggies you want and then just keep ordering short rib only. Each following order is 5 pieces and we had a party of 3. Overall, I was content with the food.I do kind of miss the layout before the renovation when you had to take off your shoes but this is very affordable and the bbq smell isn’t super strong on your clothes. Also I’m glad I no longer have to wear the communal bathroom slippers.
