This is an iconic and go to spot in the Lower East Side to have a sweet or savory (or both) knish! I always make the walking trip to order a sweet potato or apple strudel knish to start my morning or have as an afternoon snack. I find comfort in getting it warmed up at the ideal temperature so I can easily bite in and enjoy while sitting at a nearby park or walking and snacking. The cashier I usually see is very kind and makes sure the knish is warmed up perfectly (I believe they ask you if you want it warmed up). [Side note, I usually order a coffee or cappuccino from a coffee shop in West 4th to pair beautifully with either my sweet potato or apple strudel knish] I highly recommend coming and spreading the word about this place. It's a historical foodie destination and should be shared one knish at a time.

Everything is great keep up the amazing work and great tasting knishes I lived near the store and would go there when I could afford to buy a knish the year1950 -1953 until I moved

One of the last old time old time food joints left on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Great food, and great old time service.

This place is a dump! It is not what I saw in the videos on YouTube. They had everything blocked off. The only thing that was accurate was the name and theybdid have Knishs. But they were warming them up in a microwave ? ?. What a joke. Service was terrible and the Knish was rubber!

The best knishes in NYC and possibly the entire universe.Vegetarian options: Everything is vegetarian and eight of the knish flavors are vegan.

Recommended in the Marco Polo travel guide. The spinach particle was missing salt - probably an old Jewish recipe. Fills you up. However, Dr. is very cool. Brown's Cream Soda. I have no idea how such a brilliant restaurant can be allowed to go to waste like this. No seating, the shop was full of boxes and run down. Old would be ok - but this looks like poor American craftsmanship.

Just average knishes. I truly wanted to like them, but $5.50 for cold knishes that they warm up in a microwave? The guy behind the counter said they don't serve them fresh anymore and shrugged his shoulders. I would have given 3 stars but minus one for the price. I brought a few home (ordered before trying) and my wife wasn't impressed either. What a shame.

I met Yonah there! Super nice guy, nice staff and good Knishes. And they have shirts too!PS: The original Knish is a little too basic for me, so I recommend trying some of their other flavors.

The guy in the back seemed really put out I came in. Then I dared ask questions. Completely dismissive with one word answers and not looking at me, just looking off in the distance somewhere, letting me know how important I was. He did recommend the cherry or the blueberry savory knish, and recommended it be heated. Then he made sure I leave to make sure I didn’t dare think about eating in the store. I think this is NYC charm? ??‍♂️?? it was very good! Not at all what you get from a vendor on city streets.

The blueberry cheese knish was so good and was generously filled. We are going to keep coming back here and wonder why we only tried it now. Update: Went back on a Sunday and then soon after I got sick. Hygiene issues in this place.

I have a fond memory of getting a garlic and onion knish at Yonah Schimmel's before a movie screening at the old Landmark Sunshine movie theatre, which of course no longer exists. It was such a delightful treat to have while at the movies. Would love to go back for another savory knish next time I visit NYC. The interior has a great mom and pop feel, nothing fancy. The fact that this business has been around for over 100 years just makes you feel as if you are stepping back in time. Definitely a Lower East Side and New York City institution. An important cultural landmark!

Order arrived as expected, delicious variety. Sweet potato very good, the others were excellent. They actually differed from the potato knishes I get locally (Yonah is closer to traditional). Directions on warming them up and storage were thorough and accurate.

I paid $6.50. When you order, it is immediately warmed and packaged. I ate it and it had a very soft texture and a fragrant aroma, and it tasted a bit like infant formula.I intend to visit again.Above all, the owner welcomed me warmly and explained things very kindly.

Awesome place! Particularly enjoy blueberry and cherry knishes. Anticipate ordering to go but we'll worth the trip.
