Birthday dinner
I recently went on (04/05) for my 31st birthday and I wanted to say I was astounded by the flavor and composition of my special. I ordered the rabbit. As someone who cherishes local and seasonal ingredients, this menu item was a slam dunk. Between the rabbit, the mustard greens and the delightful dancing of purple radish on my plate…I was beyond satiated by the balance and beauty of this dish. Very historic cozy tavern in the city of Newburgh. Parking is adequate, restrooms are antique and not expected to be perfect. Service was above average but wasn't fully knowledgeable about different wines. Food was very good, we had the Beef Wellington, Liver Pate, Apple Cobbler, Spiked Root Beer Float along with salads. Recommend all. Prices seemed good for fine dining. Nice experience and will return again.

North Plank Road Tavern is a charming and historic restaurant that offers exceptional food, atmosphere, and service. The tavern features delicious dishes such as scallops and pasta carbonara, and decadent desserts like bacon and caramel bread pudding. The staff, including attentive servers and kind owners, provide excellent personal service, often welcoming guests warmly. The restaurant's aesthetic is beautiful, quaint, and comfortable, making it a great spot for a date night or special occasion.
The smoked meats on the charcuterie board are phenomenal, and the restaurant has a lot of character and charm, reflecting its rich history as a stagecoach stop, speakeasy, and even a brothel. Visitors can wander through creaking, narrow corridors that feel like stepping through a portal in time. The owner and their spouse are very kind and attentive, sometimes even welcoming guests through the backdoor early in the day.
The menu includes vegetarian options, such as a tasty gnocchi, and the homemade local pasta is out of this world. The atmosphere is incredible, the service is friendly, and the menu is delicious and inventive. The cucumber martini is a refreshing cocktail. While some guests find the portions small and the prices high, many feel the experience makes up for it. Those who arrive early might even get a chance to see the owner’s warm hospitality firsthand.
Guests should make sure to save room for the bacon and caramel bread pudding, and parking is available on-site. Overall, North Plank Road Tavern offers a unique blend of history, great food, and a cozy, memorable atmosphere.
