As you enter, the unmistakable smell of burning wood hits your senses. Reminded me of Posada de la Villa in Madrid (which has been in operation since 1642). Plenty of dishes on the menu are cooked in wooden oven. Excellent ham and cheese appetizers. I believe this is a farm to table concept.

My first experience with Stissing House was for my birthday dinner with friends and it did not disappoint- we had a mixed group of people who drink and people who don’t and there was a great selection for both- I had a salted lime mock-tail -I believe — and it was perfect. I also had their chips, pickled vegetables as sides, coal roasted scallops in green butter sauce our meal came with perfectly dressed watercress - it was all quite tasty- sadly I was not able to eat any of the desserts due to dietary restrictions I wish I didn’t have to follow- but the group said they were delicious! The staff went out of their way to make my birthday a special occasion- they went above and beyond—- I will always be so appreciative and thankful for that! Our small group loved everything they drank and every dish they ordered. The candle lit tables and minimalist colonial vibes, and being able to sit and watch their beautiful open kitchen is an experience in its own. And also must add- most of their dishes are cooked over wood fires?! Highly recommend.Parking: Parking lot is behind the restaurant.

Excellent service and great food. We were seated in a large parlor with roaring fireplace and served drinks on a cold and rainy evening while our table was readied. Service was attentive and we were able to enjoy the activity in the open kitchen while our orders were prepared. The wood fired oven added a subtle extra dimension of flavor to the food, not smokey at all, but a rich savory taste that can't be duplicated on a gas range. I recommend the main dining room if one is making a reservation as that's where it all happens.

All around 5 stars! This place is MAGICAL & full of character. I sat at the bar for the first portion of my meal. I started with the Cup of Broth... this IS a must. If I could have ordered 3 of them, I would have. The bartender suggested having my dessert in the waiting room. Which was ... spectacular. (see photo) The SMOKEY BIRD beverage is my recommendation ( house made chipotle infused tequila!) & the coconut cake for dessert was delicious.. think light & airy for texture yet still full of subtle flavor.

One of the most exciting restaurants in the NE. Love the design of the space and the food really can't be beat when it comes to contemporary American. Last time we were here I had an amazing monkfish stew. I'm not one to order soup for an entree but it caught my eye and I'm happy I went for it.

For $35 dollars I would expect my roast chicken to pluck itself and dance on the plate. It did not. It was just a roast chicken. The mushroom appetizer was sold out at 6:00PM on a Monday. Where the main room would seem to be welcoming and warm, the side room I dined in was not. The coffee was tepid - no excuse for that. One and done.

Celebrated my birthday at stissing house and it was just beautiful. We made a reservation in advance and even though it was Thursday, the restaurant was busy. The atmosphere is intimate with the candle light at every table, the design is well chosen and the food is great. We got a complementary dessert which was delicious and I don’t think I took any pictures of the food, but it was delicious. The cheese selection is great.

Appetizers were wonderful but main entrees were slightly disappointing. Dessert (toffee ice cream sundae) was extraordinary. We were seated in a chilly room away from most of the other patrons.Hmm.

Whoever gave this place less than 5 stars was wrong. Been for brunch two times and just went for dinner and it's the best.
