Food represents excellent value and quality. It's your standard Chinese restaurant in a not so great area. Which means, generally, not great atmosphere but very good food. And it's very very good here, at least what I had (lo mein and general Tsos chicken). My chicken wasn't spicy so if you want it hot ask, but probably very stomach safe if you have GERD or another GI issue. We absolutely LOVE China Star! The food is wonderful, the speed of service is eminently satisfactory, and the prices are most reasonable.If you're looking for Chinese food in the 19th Ward, China Star is the ONLY restaurant worth thinking about!

On a stay at a local hotel, we decided to try this Chinese take-out. We were not disappointed. They were very good to tell us that the broccoli in garlic sauce would come with msg and sugar pre-made in the sauce when we said we would like the dish without msg and sugar. They suggested a white sauce made from scratch instead to meet our requirements. It was very good. We asked for tofu in the dish, and we even ordered an extra serving. One dish was more than enough for two.
