Such an amazing experience at Max‘s Chophouse. It was my stepmother‘s 70th birthday, so I wanted to find an extra special place with superior flavors and service to make the night special.
And while we understand that Rochester is chock full of elite restaurants, and many of them are new and shiny, promising an experience, unlike any other, please do not discard a fine local treasure like Max’s Chophouse. They have truly stood the test of time being in business for over 20 years.
I haven’t been in years, but upon stepping foot into Max’s Chophouse, I felt a sense of comfortable upscale familiarity. Upscale, yet not obnoxious. Accommodating and pleasant and fancy! Our server Cory was knowledgeable and truly made the night special. It’s obvious that he is a veteran in the industry, portraying a certain panache and flair that only comes with years in the industry.
We also had a pleasant word with Scott who really took the time to talk to us and made us feel so valued as customers.
The texture on my Filet mignon was unbeatable. There are other places that do not have that and to me that really makes this piece of steak stand out and that’s why I will be back!! So incredibly delicious and everyone else loved their meals.
So yes, thank you Max’s Chophouse for such an unforgettable night! You have a customer for life ❤️ Keep on doing what you’re doing because obviously it’s working. I’m not quite sure why this gem of a local establishment isn’t on the best of list in Rochester, but they are truly number one in my opinion. If you haven’t been, you should definitely go!

We came in for my husbands birthday and could not have had a better night than we did. The wagyu meatballs were an excellent appetizer, the bread and the sauce was a very good combo. I got the chicken entree, my husband got the filet mignon. The filet was cooked perfectly, and my chicken was as well. The sauce that came with the chicken was light, but so so good. I was very pleased with everything, from the cocktails, to the food, and the service. I will definitely be back, and will add Max's to my rotation of restaurants.

Service is excellent. Food is very good. Plate presentation is non-existent. They serve expensive steaks on a small, plain white, average plate with no garnish. Just a hunk of meat, by itself, on a basic white plate. Also we we were told you must other everything all at once. The dining room is nice except the lights go from dim to normal to dim to normal every few minutes. It was like that the entire time we were there. They either need to replace the dimmer switch because it's not functioning correctly, get one for the correct wattage of all of the combined bulbs, or get one that is LED bulb compliant if they use leds. For the prices they charge there should be no issues like these. Both items are very easy to remedy.

This was our third time back to Max Chophouse and was unfortunately a disappointing one. Service was very slow. We ordered 2 apps crab cakes and steak tartare. Both were absolutely fantastic. When it came to our entrees it was a different experience. My wife ordered lobster tails and they came over cooked and rubbery and I ordered the salmon special. I tried some of my wife’s lobster and had to spit it out it was so bad. The salmon itself was great however the mess that it was on top of was not good at all. I put it to the side and ate just the salmon. We also got Brussel sprouts which came out soggy and mushy and the make and cheese. The Mac and cheese was delicious.
We “finished” our meal and I tried to have a conversation with the waiter about the food and he was too busy. He asked if we wanted our sides wrapped up and we said just the mac and cheese and he disappeared and never came back with the sides.
We had enough at this point and decided to move on. For a $300 meal for 2 people this one fell very short unfortunately.
My advice is stick to the steak. We’ve had that in the past and it’s always been very good.

Everything about this experience was perfect!!! Extremely friendly staff! Wonderful menu!
The good: phenomenal service. Our waiter is also a singer, and he was singing in the middle of the restaurant, and it was the highlight of the meal. He sang like Frank Sinatra, but also does opera. The steak was done perfectly. It was so much better than some of the other steakhouses in town, especially after having such a horrible experience at Gio Prime. Best ribeye I’ve had in a long time. Pork belly appetizer was very tasty and was one of the better pork belly dishes I’ve had . Octopus is very good. Maybe not as tender as Bonnie & Clyde , but it was still really good. Mushrooms were excellent. My wife’s lamb chops were excellent as well. Perfectly cooked and well seasoned.
the bad: it’s very small so it ended up being very noisy. Tables are squished together really close to each other. Very tight parking and you might not get a spot so you might have to park across the street. I recommend it overall.

Came into town for a show at the arena and had the most wonderful time. Scott was knowledgeable and positively delightful. If we’re ever back in town we absolutely will be returning!

Restaurantji Recommends
Steaks were rotten, Over charred and under seasoned. Ordered the porterhouse and the meat smelled like rotten meat. Absolutely disgusting. Do not recommend to anyone. Apps were okay and sides were mediocre.

We did go about a year ago….i was looking for fabulous restaurants in Rochester for next anniversary meal….lets start from the beginning….when I asked about what waygu beef was. My server told me it was “very expensive” (yes pretty woman scenario exactly) pretty much went down hill from there. Nothing was cooked to satisfaction . And yay for Maxs….they can probably delete this review. Never again. I wouldn’t go to an establishment unless I was prepared to pay. Sorry I don’t look your east side type! I’m west side and can afford anything I want. Boo Max’s!

Food was delicious but presentation was bland and overall meals were pretty pricey. Don’t get wrong food is great but visual presentation was not up to standard.
I had dinner there with the family last night .It was nothing short of AMAZING. Our Waitress gets 10 STARS.
