Let me start by mentioning New City Cafe & Roastery is definitely unique in hiring young adults from the neighbourhood and giving them the opportunity to learn some skills. What a fantastic ethos!
The interior is full of earthy tones which exudes warmth. With cushioned window seating is perfect for reading, people watching, or a good old chinwag with a friend or two.
Not only that…there is also a sofa, lots of tables dotted around, a high chair for babies, a coat stand and free WiFi.
We ordered the Drip Coffee, Cookie Butter Latte and a Maple Cinnamon Chai which was exceptional! Felt like a lingering hug in a cup. I would highly recommend the Maple Cinnamon Chai.
We loved the wide selection of sweeteners such as agave syrup, honey and Stevia. We don’t see many cafes offering the above.
The fresh ground coffee had a packed date that indicated when the coffee beans were ground. This is not very common so we were pleasantly surprised.
Kane was fabulous. Very smiley and friendly.
There is plenty of off street parking.

My mom, cousin and I were excited to check this place out on Friday. However, we never got the opportunity. We walked in the girl behind just looked at us and I said for 3 people. Again she looked clueless. I said we’re dining in & I asked if we sit ourselves. Since she hasn’t said one word yet. We sat down and waited about 5 minutes. No one came over and there were no menus. My cousin said she had to look around for the menus because once again the girl at the front well behind the counter didn’t assist. We started looking at the menu and another 5 minutes or so went by, no one came. I told them let’s go because clearly they didn’t need or service. No one greeted us or told us we had to sit ourselves. Not one utter word. Again, as we were walking out still nothing from the woman. One thing about me, I don’t start where I’m not welcome.

Great friendly service from the staff, and the Parsells breakfast sandwich on a croissant was yummy. The cafe is beautiful with lots of local artwork and window seating, and I love how they are connected with local ministry work.

New City Cafe is a Rochester staple. The food and coffee speak for themselves, but if you need more convincing: this cafe hires and mentors local youth, and they price to accommodate neighbors in need.
Incredibly cozy and a wonderful place to do some creative work or catch up with a friend. Will return soon!
Staff are very nice and helpful and friendly. The outdoor tables are very comfortable but a little bit wobbly
Very good coffee and sandwiches. Pleasant space and atmosphere. Staff very nice. We go often. It would be great if they stayed open till 3 or 4. We often like a coffee boost around 2:30 or 3.
They have an online site where you can submit your art for putting up on the art walls. I submitted several pieces of art and never heard back from them after 2 weeks. If they didn't like the art they could have just sent me a message saying they didn't accept it.
Fantastic customer service (thanks, Nick!), and the Mexico Chiapas beans are excellent for making lattes at home.
