My review can best be summarized as "Unimpressive + Grossly Overpriced = Avoid". Not worth it.
I joined 4 companions here on a Saturday night. The maitre d' (not the waiter) appeared at our table. He ran through the specials which all had lobster. (Uh oh, the first red flag.) The maitre d' then pushed hard on ordering an "Amarone" not on the wine list. (Uh oh, a second red flag.) Then the maitre d' wanted to take orders right then. (Uh oh. The third red flag.) I now knew there was a "con job” at play. We ordered three appetizers and five entrees. He again pushed the Amarone though that varietal didn't pair well with some dishes. A companion relented on the Amarone.
Seafood appetizers (clams casino and grilled sardines) were tasteless (old). "Spaghetti pie" was odd and tasteless (just wasted calories). Lobster ravioli was one large generic ravioli smothered in butter that had 3-4 teaspoon sized pieces of lobster on them.
The Amarone was brought to the table by the maitre d'. It was a 2020. (Amarones should be aged 6-7 years at a minimum to be served.) When a companion said, "Shouldn’t it be a 2017 or 2018?", the maitre d' told him, "I will take it back to the kitchen, pull out my magic marker, and change the 20 to a 17." An extraordinary insult to a paying customer that was gratuitous and unprofessional. I wasn't paying for dinner, so I remained silent. Companions exchanged glances.
Entrees were similarly problematic. The T-bones were medium rare as ordered (good). Tuna - a large steak – the menu said sushi grade - was well done with a small, faint pink center. (Poor.) The coniglio was not tender and riddled with the fine bones when it should have “fallen off the bone”. An unexceptional dish. The fettucine al cinghiale was odd (either pork tenderloin or shoulder, not wild boar). A mediocre dish.
What was exceptional was this restaurant's bill: $945 pre-tax and tip. The Amarone was $150; it sells at retail for $37 (a 400%+ mark up). Otherwise stated, the price point is $237 per person. Very high end Italian restaurants on NYC's UES, e.g., Nico, run laps around this place x 10 with food and service and charge far less (a recent multi-course dinner for two at Nico was $365). Lanni's Cucina makes all the wrong moves. It is about generating maximum revenue out of its customers while delivering little value; therefore, a "con job". Avoid it.

It's one of the worst restaurants I have experienced in my 50 years of life in NY.
All the dishes we tasted were just salty. We couldn't enjoy the taste of meals at all. We can find much better restaurants in NJ. Medium rare was over well done.
Probably the cook didn't know how to cook or he quarreled with his wife the previous night. They overcharged for such terrible foods!

Lanni Restaurant, a local establishment, seemed promising when we arrived on a Friday night. The menu offered a variety of reasonably priced dishes, but the experience quickly soured.

When we inquired about the wine selection, the waiter informed us that they were "transitioning" their offerings and had no current wine listed on the menu. Instead, he suggested a wine without providing the name, price, etc.

The specials were described without any pricing information, and the majority of us chose the filet mignon. As a 'special dish', we assumed pricing would be slightly higher than regular menu items. When the bill arrived, we were astonished to see that each filet mignon was a staggering $98. This price point is significantly higher than even the most upscale New York City steakhouses...and we were in Sparkill, NY! I don't mind spending money on good food, but give me a break...not to mention the steak came out fairly well done when I ordered it medium.

The entire experience felt overpriced and deceptive. The off-menu wine and the exorbitant cost of the filet mignon was absolutely ridiculous. Unless there are some major changes, I don't foresee this restaurant lasting too long.

Lanni’s is a true gem
We had the best 30 month age Prosciutto, Best Caesar Salad. The Ambiance, Service and Attention to detail is above and beyond. Chef Vittorio the owner is very knowledgeable of the food and wine pairing. A must go to

Worst spaghetti and clams I've ever had. The class were over cooked and reduced to mush the pasta was so undercooked there were clumps of uncooked pasta .

As always excellent food and service. Tonight, my starter was lobster, scallops and fois gras in a bone marrow reduction - stunning! Main was a huge pork chop with prosciutto, cheese, porcini in a mushroom sauce- delicious!

Lanni’s checks all the boxes and is a great dining experience from the moment you enter the door. The ambiance is inviting with soft music, artful ly papered walls, bustling, attentive, personable staff, and well appointed tables.
The list of libations is extensive, and the inclusive menu includes traditional, regional specialties with sumptuous descriptions.
The selections of prosciutto with melon, beet salad, sea bass, and tiramisu for 2 were all beautifully presented and had complex combinations of flavors.
Kudos to this great newcomer in Sparkill!

This father son duo is amazing. The garden was beautiful tonight. Order the chef's son's off the menu special pasta. It is amazing and he modifies the recipe to accommodate food allergies. And the Negronis - need a say more.
