The word málà is composed of the Chinese characters for "numbing" (麻) and "spicy (hot)" (辣), referring to the feeling in the mouth after eating the sauce.Unlike hot pot, which is made to order and shared only by diners at a table, malatang originates from street food cooked in a communal pot. Diners can quickly choose what they wish to eat, and either eat on the spot or take away.

My husband and I have been going here for years. We leave full and satisfied, very happy and excited to come back. I always get the beef brisket hot and sour soup and my husband gets the crispy duck. Both I highly recommend and I recommend coming to this place in general. Such a cozy authentic atmosphere and I always tell my friends and family about this place. I brought my Uncle here for his birthday and he was so happy and loved the food. I’ll always come here with new people...

Food is pretty pricey, we bought 2 entrees but they didn't come with rice, So weird. Most of Chinese places I went also have rice with an entree and because I ordered it togo, and I didn't check when I got home I later realized it was no rice. I was upset. The entrees we got, one of them was spicy, so I wasn't happy to have it without rice. I just ruined my night.

Authentic Chinese food was excellent. The woman who took our order, was a little impatient with our decision making. We had never been there before. When we finally told her what our order was she said that's it? Mind you , we ordered a lot of food, including dessert which was excellent, especially the 8 treasure rice pudding.
