My fiancee and I have been going to Northern Coast since shortly after it opened, and it never disappoints. This place is the definition of a "hidden gem", being in the lobby at the Hilton Garden Inn on the Stony Brook campus (you don't need to be a student to go, but students get a discount IIRC). Although it's right adjacent to the lobby with little separation, it's much more than your standard hotel eatery with lots of great New American dishes and a warm, comfortable, unique atmosphere.I've tried several dinner items, and all have been great so far, with reasonable prices, sizeable portions, good variety of styles, all fresh-tasting and "made to order". But, if there's one thing I always go back to, it's the roasted chicken. The skin is so crispy and it has a buttery au-jus that's just divine. It comes with some sauteed string beans that are sweet and flavorful as well. I'd also like to mention the pork chops, brussels sprouts, and the peach melba dessert as well. The service never disappoints, and at least when we went, the vibe of the place is calm and quiet (even with being next to the hotel's front desk). I dig the melodic chill/deep house from the hotel lobby, and I also love the style of the place, it's got a clean, colorful look that feels very "90s tropical". Screens are around that rotate through pictures of the food items. We usually eat there pretty late (it's refreshing finding a place that will stay open till 10PM), so I could imagine this place gets a lot busier and noisier at other times (like around college orientation/graduation, or brunch).I love this place and think it's a great addition to the area. Definitely give it a chance if you're in town!

The restaurant is in the Hotel itself. Staff is very nice and accommodating. We went for breakfast and were pleasantly surprised by the options. The venue is clean and relaxing. I will come back again for sure!

So YES its in a hotel. And YES the food is that good. We stopped in for some burgers and fries and werent let down. Bugere were thick and seasoned well. Wifes pnut butter cup cocktail was good and dessert ( peach malba toast ) was tasty. I usually go with chocolate desserts but wanted something different and this didnt disappoint. The menu had several options but we were looking for something simple.

We stopped in for lunch. Had the stony brook burger with fries and the short rib tacos and chicken soup. The burger and fries was a nice sized plate and it was good. The three taco dish was crazy good and so was the soup. The place was full but the service was good. The restaurant is in lobby of hotel decorated for Christmas and hotel is clean and chic. Will definitely go back.

Staying at Hilton this week and decided to give the restaurant a try. Couldn’t be happier that I did. Great food and an awesome bartender to top it off. Will be eating here every night of the stay.

We live a few minutes away and never knew there was a restaurant in this hotel. So we were shocked and a little disappointed when we arrived. But based on the reviews, we said "why not." And we were lucky we stayed. Their French onion soup was good- not great, but good. And the pretzel app was so fresh and fluffy. I'm still confused why they charge so much for a hot pretzel - it's industry standard unfortunately. My burger was so so good. It was extremely juicy and the bacon jam was a great touch. My cocktail drink was made to perfection. And to top it off, they provide a discount before an event at Staller. My only gripe is being in the hotel lobby kinda cheapens the experience. Like get a side entrance so non hotel guests don't have to walk past a concierge desk and make a wall so we don't see the hotel vestibule while we eat. Just to make it feel like a separate establishment.

We just went here for the first time tonight- not gonna lie, was wary since it was located in a hotel, but decided to go for it! WOW was I wrong! Everything we had was fantastic! We had fried cauliflower, short rib grilled cheese, a chicken sandwich and a s'mores lava cake. Everything was presented nicely and had a great flavor. Not to mention, the pricing was outstanding. We can't wait to come back and try for breakfast!

Northern Coast Kitchen & Cocktails is a good option for food in the Stony Brook area. It is located at the Hilton Garden Inn, but I would definitely say the hours are a bit funny. The last call for orders is at 1:15 pm on weekdays because the kitchen closes at 1:30 pm. I have come here with a group a few times for lunch and once for breakfast. I liked the selection for breakfast and especially the branded waffle iron with the Hilton logo in the center & their omelet station. (I can't wait to go back again for breakfast!)For lunch, I've tried a few of their burgers and look forward to trying their tacos as my colleagues have praised the shrimp tacos. An additional thing that I like about Northern Coast is that they offer free tampons and pads in the bathroom. One particular aspect that I find disappointing is the reservation process. I took the initiative to call and make a reservation for our group, but when we arrived, the table had been given to someone else. Unfortunately, the staff didn't inquire about the name associated with the reservation, resulting in this mix-up.

Why does it take 30minutes to get shrimp tacos when the restaurant isn't close to full? The food is fine, but don't be in a hurry. Minimal choices as you would expect in a standard hotel restaurant.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Northern Coast Kitchen & Cocktails, and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed. I usually pass this place when I'm driving on campus and decided it was worth a try from the other reviews. For my entrée, I had the burger with a side of fries, which was cooked to perfection. The burger was juicy and flavorful, and the fries were tender and lightly seasoned. What really stood out to me was the excellent service. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations for cocktails to pair with our meal. Overall, Northern Coast Kitchen & Cocktails is a fantastic restaurant with amazing food and drinks, and exceptional service. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience, whether you're a local or just passing through the area.
