The restaurant is in the Hotel itself. Staff is very nice and accommodating. We went for breakfast and were pleasantly surprised by the options. The venue is clean and relaxing. I will come back again for sure!
So YES its in a hotel. And YES the food is that good. We stopped in for some burgers and fries and werent let down. Bugere were thick and seasoned well. Wifes pnut butter cup cocktail was good and dessert ( peach malba toast ) was tasty. I usually go with chocolate desserts but wanted something different and this didnt disappoint. The menu had several options but we were looking for something simple.

My fiancee and I have been going to Northern Coast since shortly after it opened, and it never disappoints. This place is the definition of a "hidden gem", being in the lobby at the Hilton Garden Inn on the Stony Brook campus (you don't need to be a student to go, but students get a discount IIRC).
