30min for 3 small tacos. Served multiple people before prior customers who ordered the same thing. Was excited and left extremely disappointed

Tortas is off the hook! Awesome food!
Ordered the Birria Pizzadilla and Birria Tacos for 4. We all agreed it was probably the best birria we've all had and would say the consume could literally be sold as a drink.

This was delicious ! We got the pizza (just to try it and it would easily serve 3-4 people!), a mole poblano tamale, regular birria tacos and the steak tacos. All were delicious and well spiced ! Yum! So happy to have found you!

Consistently excellent Mexican food made with subtle, well-balanced takes on flavors and textures. It’s our go-to Mexican spot - even living in Albany!

Service was a joke during the Troy victorian stroll. Idk what they're like normally but the wait was ridiculous and the restaurant was not packed.
The food was pricey for very little.
The empanadas were mostly air inside.
The Chicken one had zero flavor and the only flavor was the white sauce they drizzled over the top of it. Which was a surprise because I've never had an empanada with sauces already on it... I would have asked to skip that part if I knew ahead of time but it was the only flavor on the whole thing.
The Guava & Cheese one was under cooked and almost burnt at the same time. The filling never melted or warmed. The cheese inside was shredded cheese still in the shredded form/texture and cold... The outside was crunchy and hard.
That's all I asked for 2 empanadas, my order took almost an hour. And then the guy at the register did not speak Spanish and could not fully understand English and the girl serving the food only spoke Spanish. They basically communicated with hand signals... When the kitchen doors opened I saw 2 other employees on their phones.
From what I saw the cooks were the only ones really getting anything done, coming out to direct the two in front on what to do and then going back to cook the food. No wonder it took so long. They need better staff so they can focus on cooking the food right.
This was an event and they may be better when they're not overwhelmed and properly staffed. But I'll probably never find out.
They did have live music and the girl singing was entertaining. So 2 stars for that.

Restaurantji Recommends
Mex Cocina / La Catrina is a gem in the Capital Region! The food is authentic, flavorful, and delicious – the tacos and margaritas were top-notch. With the growing Latino community here, this restaurant is a much-needed spot where everyone can feel at home. The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Highly recommend – I’ll definitely be back!

Amazing restaurant! It’s so tiny and cute. The food was also extremely delicious. I got the birria pizza and elote and I would 1000% recommend them both

I got the Huevos con Chorizo while at the Troy Farmers Market today. The eggs and chorizo were delicious. The torillas were freshly made and out of this world. This dish also comes with black beans, which I did not get as I don’t like black beans. Overall, the food was amazing and I can’t wait to try their chorizo and potato empanadas and much more. The staff that I interacted with were very kind.
